About the job

APG Asset Management Amsterdam is seeking to hire a Quantitative Portfolio Manager for the Research and Analytics (R&A) team, which is part of the Global Infrastructure team.

Role description

Reporting to the lead of Research & Analytics Infrastructure, this role is pivotal in both the development of a global Infrastructure Analytics platform and the regional investment process for the European Infrastructure portfolio.

You will play a key role in shaping investment strategy and developing novel capabilities to support the Infrastructure team’s portfolio construction and value creation objectives. With a €35bn infrastructure portfolio expected to grow significantly in the coming years, you will work closely with all portfolio managers to shape the capital allocation framework, develop innovative analyses and solutions for existing assets, and identify origination and value creation opportunities across more than 35 sectors and over 30 countries. You will leverage your technical skills and entrepreneurial drive to build new analytical and research capabilities, including the development of our investment data collection, analysis, and scenario modelling platform, the introduction of (Gen)AI capabilities, and the expansion of our knowledge base through deep sectoral and geographical research.

Additionally, you will dedicate a significant portion of your time to portfolio management, engaging in transactions and supporting asset management through board participation in direct investments. You will collaborate with a highly talented group of investment professionals, C-suite executives, and advisors on a wide range of assignments that will challenge your problem-solving skills and accelerate your personal development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the global infrastructure analytics platform, participating in all stages from solution design to development and rollout
  • Lead broad and deep thematic research to inform the team’s capital allocation strategy
  • Formulate, steer, and monitor the value creation agenda across our 200+ investments
  • Participate in transactions, contributing across all workstreams
  • Contribute to asset management as a board observer or on discrete assignments

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate is passionate about infrastructure, investment, and research, and has a quantitative background.

  • Master’s degree or higher in a quantitative domain such as econometrics, engineering, or mathematics (other backgrounds welcome with demonstrable technical and analytical aptitude)
  • 3-5 years of work experience in a relevant domain (e.g., M&A, investment research, strategy consulting)
  • Entrepreneurial drive, with the ability to independently shape and lead the development and implementation of innovative investment research solutions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders from leading institutions
  • Strong financial and business acumen, with relevant prior experience (e.g., in transactions and/or value creation), and a willingness to continue personal development in this area
  • Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity, able to handle ever-changing situations under time pressure and contribute to both strategic and operational topics
  • Strong command of Python and the Office Suite, with experience in SQL
  • Excellent command of English
  • Willingness to undertake regional travel
