Optimize the workflow in the OPC factory

Are you a HBO/WO student looking for a graduation assignment? Are you ready for the challenge to improve our factory flow to increase the output efficiency? We are looking for you!

Your assignment

In a factory with many different production machines and processes, a good flow is crucial to ensure a high operator productivity, and to keep production costs low. Over the years, a natural flow has developed in the OPC-factory, which is not necessarily the most efficient way of working.

In this assignment, you will work in a multidisciplinary team in order to increase the factory output in an ergonomic way, by focusing on the work flow. The project team consists of operators, production engineering and occupational health and safety, and will follow a six sigma way of working. Your challenge is to find the most efficient work flow in the factory, by analysing throughput times, identifying non-value adding operations, (re)defining operator tasks and balancing the work load between the different tasks. An efficient work flow should lead to a maximized output (in total and per operator), with an optimal assurance of product quality, while minimizing the costs per product and the work load of the operators.

Your work may consist of data-analysis, discussions with operators, and joining operators in production to find the elements to improve. The end goal of your assignment is to implement your suggested improvements of our work flow.

The project takes place at the OPC (organic photo conductor) factory at Manufacturing 2 at Canon Production Printing in Venlo.
