Be part of progress: Join ASML’s Hardware Development Team

Introduction

Help shape the future of semiconductor technology by joining ASML’s Hardware Development team. Our team designs advanced FPGA solutions for high-performance systems used in cutting-edge lithography machines. With FPGA complexity growing rapidly, we need innovative approaches to debugging. In this internship, you will contribute to developing a cross-platform FPGA debug method that integrates seamlessly with design blocks and accelerates issue resolution.

Your assignment

This internship offers hands-on experience with FPGA design and verification, while collaborating with experienced engineers in a dynamic environment. You will work on creating a novel FPGA debug method for ASML’s hardware designs.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Conceptualize and implement an FPGA debug method for ASML designs.
  • Assist in designing and implementing FPGA modules using VHDL or Verilog.
  • Support simulation, synthesis, and timing analysis of digital designs.
  • Participate in lab testing, debugging, and validation of FPGA hardware.
  • Document design processes, test results, and technical learnings.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers on integration tasks.
  • Learn and apply industry-standard tools and methodologies for FPGA development.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Have interest and basic experience in FPGA design and digital systems.
  • Are proactive, analytical, and collaborative in your approach to problem-solving.
  • Can work with hardware lab equipment and have basic programming skills in VHDL or Verilog.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.

Internship details

  • This is a bachelor thesis internship for a minimum of 4 months, 5 days per week (5 days on-site).
  • The start date of this internship is February 2nd, 2026.
  • You must be enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation for why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. If you are currently living or studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include your willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university must be willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
