Be part of progress: Join the YieldStar team at ASML

Introduction

Join the YieldStar team at ASML, where we develop cutting-edge optical metrology tools that measure wafer pattern quality with high precision. To maintain this accuracy, our tools rely on specialized software blocks called ACPDs (Adjustment, Calibration, Performance, Diagnostics). These blocks are essential throughout the tool’s lifecycle, from manufacturing to customer use. This internship explores the feasibility of a graphical tool that simplifies ACPD creation, bridging the gap between physics and software engineering.

Your assignment

In this master’s thesis internship, you will investigate whether it is feasible to develop a graphical user interface (GUI) that enables physics engineers to create ACPDs more efficiently. The goal is to improve collaboration between physics and software engineers, reduce development time, and minimize bugs.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to finalize and validate requirements.
  • Design the architecture for the proposed tool, including software structure and components.
  • Develop a test design suitable for integration into our CI/CD pipeline.
  • Write and test code in C# to support the tool’s functionality.
  • Explore how ACPD building blocks can be sequenced and connected in the GUI.
  • Ensure the tool supports clear communication between physics and software engineers.
  • Define the scope of the thesis in collaboration with your ASML mentor.

This is a master thesis internship for a minimum of 6 months, minimum 5 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is February 2026.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are pursuing a master’s degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Have an interest in both software development and physics or mathematics.
  • Are familiar with C# or Java, or are motivated to learn C#.
  • Are analytical, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
