Introduction

Join the YieldStar team at ASML, where we develop advanced optical metrology tools that measure wafer pattern quality with high speed and precision. To meet evolving market demands, our software must continuously improve in pattern recognition capabilities. This bachelor thesis internship focuses on evaluating open-source alternatives to our current pattern recognition methods and exploring how they can be integrated into our software environment.

Your assignment

In this bachelor thesis internship, you will explore the feasibility of replacing or enhancing our current pattern recognition solution with open-source alternatives. You will assess compatibility, performance, and integration strategies, while working closely with your ASML mentor to define the scope of your thesis.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Analyze existing research and assess open-source pattern recognition solutions.
  • Evaluate compatibility with current software architecture and APIs.
  • Identify missing features and explore ways to implement them.
  • Design a verification and release strategy for new solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to finalize requirements.
  • Create a software design and test plan.
  • Develop and test code in C#.

This is a bachelor thesis internship for a minimum of 6 months, at least 5 days per week (with at least 3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is February 2026.

Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Have an interest in pattern recognition and algorithmic problem solving.
  • Are familiar with C# or Java, or are motivated to learn C#.
  • Are analytical, with a proactive mindset.
  • Work well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. If you are currently living or studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include your willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university must be willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
