Join Our Team as a Summer School Officer

As a Summer School Officer, you will join a small, enthusiastic and international team to organise our annual VU Amsterdam Summer School in July 2026. In addition to organisational aspects, you will be involved in communication with students and with internal and external partners. You will also help set up the social programme before, during, and after the school to introduce students to each other, Dutch culture, Amsterdam, and the Netherlands.

Your Duties

  • Various aspects related to the organisation of our Summer School, such as the application process, promotion, communication, our additional social programme, and student engagement
  • Communication with international students via telephone, e-mail, and face-to-face on a daily basis; welcoming students on campus, chaperoning activities, giving campus tours
  • Assisting in organising the social programme agenda and all aspects of event planning
  • Assisting in course selection process and reviews
  • Creative writing and creating (graphic and/or written) content for social media, the website, and other promotional means such as paid advertisements and newsletters
  • Selecting and assisting scholarship candidates and student ambassadors
  • Contact with course coordinators, partners, and the Quality Board

Your Profile

  • Experience with planning and event organisation
  • Experience in creative content writing in English (fluent)
  • International orientation and intercultural sensitivity/competence
  • Fluent oral and written command of the English and Dutch language (preferable)
  • Stress resilient and willing to work flexible/unusual hours
  • Physical (on campus) attendance throughout the summer programme
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), experience with Canva (or a different graphic tool)

What We Offer

  • A salary of minimum € 3.382,00 (Scale 8) and maximum € 4.484,00 (Scale 8) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Internationalisation Officer 3. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • A position for 0.8 FTE – your employment will be temporary; from February until October 2026.
  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • A wide range of sports facilities which staff may use at a modest charge
  • The possibility to work partly from home
  • Contribution to commuting expenses

About Us

International Office

The International Office prepares internationalization policies, advises on them, and provides services to students, foreign guests, and university staff. The International Office is managed by the three Heads of Departments: International Mobility, International Relations, and the Center for International Cooperation.

This vacancy falls within the International Mobility department. The International Mobility department is responsible for promoting the international mobility of students and staff. The department consists of three teams and handles the central applications of international students in diploma and contract education, evaluates foreign diplomas, and processes visa, residence permit, and work permit applications for students and guests/staff. Additionally, International Mobility provides information to VU students about studying abroad, manages various funds and exchange programs, and supports housing needs for international students and guests/staff of the VU.

Student & Educational Affairs

We at Student & Educational Affairs ensure that Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam works like a well-oiled machine. We assist in logistics and help with realising educational programmes; we also aim to create a worry-free and unforgettable university experience for our students. We support students from enrolment right through graduation. We help international students and researchers find their way around VU Amsterdam, for example by arranging housing and other needs. We also work closely with the faculties in developing educational policy and implementing educational improvements. We want students to learn, grow and have fun! That’s why we organise sport and cultural activities for everyone on campus and beyond.
