Create the future of our coastlines through smart engineering. As a Senior Production Engineer at Van Oord, you design and develop smart dredging solutions that shape coastlines and protect communities. Together with passionate colleagues, you turn complex challenges into resilient results worldwide.

Join Our Production Team

You will become part of the production team, where the atmosphere is open and informal. Cooperation and helping each other are important values. As a Senior Production Specialist, you will be responsible for designing and developing technologically complex dredging projects. You will specialize in a high variety of dredging projects that will challenge your analytical skills and creativity, working closely with several other disciplines within the company. The variety extends from beach nourishments to large reclamation works and from small maintenance dredging works to large integrated capital dredging works around the globe. These projects are inherent to innovative solutions, which contribute to Van Oord’s competitive edge.

Your aim is to support our commercial department and project teams both in the tender and execution phases. When a new tender is assigned to you, you will start by interpreting and analysing the available documents. With your developing expertise on complex work methods, knowledge of soils, production details, and deployment of different types of competitive equipment, you will figure out a cost-efficient production process. Details of produced documents will be part of proposals towards potential clients. Once a project is awarded, you can experience in reality what you have devised.

Your workplace
The Tendering & Engineering (T&E) department is the technical backbone of our company. We are responsible for successful tendering and engineering across our projects, from the tender phase all the way through to project completion. Working within this department means joining a dynamic group of specialists who collaborate across disciplines, share knowledge openly, and work together to deliver the best technical and commercial solutions.

You will be part of the Product Line Maintenance within T&E—a team with a clear ambition to grow and excel in international maintenance dredging projects (maintenance of waterways and beaches). By cherishing deep technical expertise, we deliver high-quality tenders that add real value. Our tenders are sometimes carried out in collaboration with partners from the industry, creating a professional and collegial environment where innovation, quality, and creativity are the keys to success.

Your Impact

As a Senior Production Specialist, your main responsibility is to set up production calculations and work methods for new projects with a focus on cost efficiency and robust, competitive solutions. In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Determining the most cost-efficient combination of equipment and logistical paths;
  • Occasionally visiting projects in execution and advising the project team and vessel crew on how to maintain or increase the production process;
  • Continuously searching for ways to optimize the working process;
  • Continuously searching for innovations;
  • Being the go-to production specialist in the company for maintenance projects;
  • Reviewing and approving work of junior Production Engineers;
  • Becoming involved in the technical in-house production training courses offered to crew and executive staff at our simulator training centre.

About You

You have the desire and interest in further developing yourself into an all-round sparring partner for Tender and Project Managers, Engineers, and vessel crew. With your communication skills, you know how to adapt your style for different types of colleagues. You have strong analytical skills, a creative and solution-driven approach, and the ability to keep ‘the big picture’ in mind and think ahead. In addition, you bring the following to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in civil engineering, in combination with several dredging courses;
  • At least 10 years of experience in execution and/or tendering of international dredging projects;
  • Strong interest in mechanical systems;
  • A genuine (tender) team player, but also able to work independently;
  • An investigative, creative, and flexible work approach;
  • Experience with estimation and preparation of dredging works is a plus;
  • Excellent command of the English language;
  • Prepared to work on projects around the globe.

We Offer

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission: 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • Additional allowances for working on board or on project locations abroad;
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office allowance (€2,15 per day);
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;
  • Pension scheme;
  • Collective health insurance (optional);
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
  • You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women, and the Van Oord staff association;
  • We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport, weekend of sailing, cycling, and a motorcycle tour.
'You come up with something at your desk and then see it actually working on a ship. That’s incredibly rewarding.'
