Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Team Leader Intermodal Transport (Non-EU) to join our team at Vanderlande. As a key member of our global supply chain organization, you will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of goods worldwide.

What will you be doing?

As a Team Leader Intermodal Transport (Non-EU) within Vanderlande, you will, together with your team of shipping managers and forwarding officers, be responsible for setting up global shipping plans using four different modalities (air, ocean, road, and rail) and managing the operational execution by the forwarding officers. You will work from Veghel and are willing to travel when needed (max 5% of your time). You are part of the Contracts and Routing Team and report to the Manager Contract, Routing & Forwarding. You create the right conditions for the team to excel, monitor the bigger picture, and encourage collaboration, a culture of continuous improvement, and customer orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the intermodal transport team (non-EU)
    • Create (global) shipping plans – optimize freight efficiency and minimize costs.
    • Project owner and end responsible for execution.
    • Ensure freight costs stay within budget.
  • Set clear priorities, objectives, and development opportunities.
  • Monitor KPIs and support improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external partners.
  • Create a stimulating work environment.
  • Act as a sparring partner for management and stakeholders.

You are fulfilling the role of shipping manager as well (part-time) in this function:

  • Determine the best shipping plan in consultation with project management, supply chain, and procurement.
  • Advise on strategies regarding duties & taxes related to global shipping.
  • Determine and negotiate the transport and packaging costs for projects and the associated risk assessment.
  • Monitor and analyze spending to optimize freight costs and ensure financial compliance.
  • Ensure trade compliance with (country-specific) transportation requirements.
  • Support procurement and manufacturing teams on inbound flow from external suppliers.
  • Steer on continuous improvement and KPIs and improve sustainability within the department.
  • Closely monitor projects, measure (internal) performances, and adjust accordingly.
  • Contribute to the transportation strategy by focusing on efficiency, reliability, and innovation.

What do we ask from you?

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Operations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • Result-oriented mindset.
  • Knowledge about global forwarding (trade lanes, export documentation required), incoterms, and the impact on duties & taxes.
  • Excellent communicator in English (and preferably also in Dutch).
  • Strong leadership skills, with proven experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Highly analytical, process-oriented, and accustomed to working in a dynamic, international environment.
