Introduction to the job

In this position, you are a trusted Legal & Compliance Business Partner to the Technology axis, proactively understanding the business, anticipating its needs, raising awareness of relevant legal and compliance issues, addressing material gaps, and providing impactful solutions to enable business objectives in a compliant manner.

Role and responsibilities

As a Legal & Compliance Business Partner (LCBP), you help the business navigate legal and compliance complexities, seize opportunities, and enable its objectives while minimizing legal exposure. ASML operates in multiple jurisdictions and is subject to various, often extraterritorially applicable, laws and regulations. The geopolitical stakes and the strategic importance of the semiconductor industry make this position both challenging and key within ASML.

To be successful, you need a deep understanding of both the law and the business, as well as strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. You will work closely with other teams within the Legal & Compliance Department—including LCBP, legal expertise, compliance, ethics, and regional teams—and collaborate with departments such as Corporate Intellectual Property, HR, and Operations to provide holistic legal support. You will be part of a team of L&C Business Partners and Legal experts, reporting to the Head of Legal HQ. The Technology Axis you will support includes the Business Line Applications and the Development & Engineering, System Engineering, and Research departments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic legal and compliance advice, offering practical, business-oriented guidance to help the Technology Axis achieve its goals while managing risks.
  • Acting as the primary interface between the L&C department and business stakeholders, ensuring open communication and alignment of objectives.
  • Participating in business planning and decision-making processes within the Technology axis management teams to ensure legal and compliance considerations are integrated from the outset.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, and advising on contract interpretation and enforcement issues as they arise.
  • Anticipating and advising on regulatory developments that impact the sector’s operations and objectives.
  • Supporting corporate projects and crisis management affecting the Technology Axis.
  • Identifying potential risks in business operations, projects, and transactions, and developing and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks while balancing compliance with business needs.
  • Communicating key legal and regulatory developments, defining future strategies and solution spaces within legal and regulatory boundaries, and raising awareness within the business regarding relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies (e.g., through trainings).

Education and experience

  • Ability to merge expertise in relevant areas of law—including commercial, technology, and intellectual property—with knowledge of how high-tech companies operate and set their priorities and objectives.
  • Master’s degree in law.
  • 15+ years’ experience in legal roles, with significant experience in business and technology.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial law, contracts, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Fluency in English.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of technology, you’ll always face new challenges and problems to solve—collaboration is essential. You’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment, collaborating with supportive colleagues, where there is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and establish rapport with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to customer satisfaction through prioritization, quality, efficiency, and professionalism.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to provide legal guidance that aligns with business objectives.
  • Ability to be a T-Connector, building strong networks and effectively engaging and managing stakeholders, including the ability to drive, steer, convince, and influence others.
  • Strong drive with a hands-on, structured, accurate, and result-oriented working style; sense of ownership with good time management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and drive others, build relationships, and influence other functional areas.
