As part of the Air Liquide group, Air Liquide Large Industries (ALBI LI) is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of industrial gas plants in the Benelux. We are a dynamic organization that strives for continuous improvement and innovation within a crucial segment of the industry.

As a Process Control Engineer, you'll join the dynamic ALBI Operations Support Team in ALBI LI, contributing to new industrial processes and benefiting from continuous learning and professional development. Your primary responsibility is to optimize process control for our installations and support PLC and DCS control system projects. This ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of products to customers, adhering to all applicable contracts, standards, and norms.

You will collaborate with engineers, experts, and project managers to troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues, consulting with other departments as needed. You'll play a key role in plant start-ups and shutdowns, using in-depth analysis to propose improvements that enhance plant safety, reliability, and efficiency. You will initiate and execute smaller projects independently, while collaborating with Air Liquide's project teams on larger initiatives.

You will independently prepare and implement logic changes for Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), leveraging your comprehensive expertise in chemical plant process automation (DCS and PLC systems). Active participation in Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT/FAT) for BPCS and SIS hardware and software is essential. Furthermore, you will share your process control knowledge to foster long-term safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to achieving safety, environmental, quality, reliability, and efficiency objectives.
  • Implement and follow up on smaller process improvements using the MOC work process.
  • Manage the process and process control scope for larger projects, supporting the cluster project team.
  • Share acquired knowledge with operators, engineers, and experts.
  • Develop functional/logic diagrams and Cause & Effect analyses.
  • Configure and program PLC, DCS, and SCADA control systems.
  • Actively participate in loop and interlock tests for new equipment and commissioning.
  • Lead SAT/FAT validation.
  • Contribute to the analysis of trip, environmental, and quality incidents through RCAs, proposing preventive measures.

Are you the right person for this role?

  • Team Player: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, maintenance technicians, operators, and project managers.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Essential for constructive consultation across all involved individuals and departments.
  • Proactive & Independent: Self-motivated to troubleshoot and propose site-wide installation improvements.
  • Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decisiveness.
  • Accuracy & Precision: Demonstrated ability to work meticulously.
  • High Sense of Responsibility: Committed to process continuity and working cautiously to ensure personal and team safety and health.
  • Profound knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide range of industrial instrumentation (e.g., flow, pressure, temperature, level sensors, control valves).
  • Understanding of chemical processes, particularly Air Separation & SMR technology, is a significant advantage.
