We are currently looking for a Control Engineer to join the team in Delft.

Are you driven by the challenge of bringing mechanical systems to life through control and precision?

We’re looking for a Control Engineer with a strong background in Dynamics and Control to help design and optimize advanced mechatronic systems.

In this role, you’ll be part of a high-tech environment where mechanics, electronics, and control theory converge — creating cutting-edge solutions that push the limits of speed, stability, and performance.

Job details

Main responsibilities

As a Control Engineer, you’ll be responsible for understanding, modeling, and improving the dynamic behavior of complex mechatronic systems.

You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues in mechanical design, electronics, and software, ensuring smooth integration and high system performance.

Your expertise in system dynamics, control synthesis, and experimental validation will be key to achieving precise motion and reliable operation across high-performance applications.

  • Perform modal analyses and dynamic modeling of mechanical and mechatronic assemblies.
  • Build and validate multi-dimensional lumped-mass models linked to FEM and experimental data.
  • Use system identification and experimental modal analysis to verify and improve system performance.
  • Apply and refine linear, robust, and adaptive control techniques to enhance dynamic stability.
  • Translate non-linear dynamic behavior into practical design improvements and control strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, high-performance mechatronic systems.
  • Contribute to advancing internal methodologies for system dynamics and control engineering
  • Apply control theory — from Bode interpretation and loop shaping to robust and adaptive control synthesis.

Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, with a focus on Dynamics and Control.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in high-tech, optomechatronic, or fine-mechanical environments (industry or academia).
  • Strong foundation in vibration analysis, modal analysis, and control theory.
  • Experience with precision mechanics, optical systems, or mechatronic integration is a strong plus.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex dynamics into practical control solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, curious, and solution-driven approach.
  • A pioneering attitude — eager to explore, innovate, and push technical boundaries.

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team driving innovation in optomechatronics and precision engineering. Together, we translate scientific ideas into technological breakthroughs.

Our story

At S[&T] we contribute to a safer life on earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. We oversee data from instruments to application, and apply our expertise within our software frameworks, information products and consultancy.

Our society relies on space and scientific instruments for climate change monitoring, navigation, defence and national security, and other crucial services we all use in our daily lives. These instruments produce an enormous quantity of complex data, and our goal is to unlock its value.

We have more than 20 years of experience working on instrument calibration, the creation of data quality monitoring tools, the development of real-time data processing frameworks, and the development of application-specific algorithms. With this, we help organisations, governments and industries to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision making. We focus on the following domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability, and High-Tech Consulting.
