About the team:

The Data & AI Governance department enables extending the governance theme of policies, standards, processes and technology for governing data and AI, to driving excellence in our approach for leveraging secure, trusted, accessible data for data driven decision making through:

  • An overarching Data & AI Policy to include associated standards
  • Data & AI Governance capabilities
  • Data Access and Usage Control, in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Data & AI Delivery Governance
  • Data & AI Observability and Quality

This enables the maturity of Data and AI capabilities across Booking.com, unlocking innovation and business value through leveraging data and AI.

Role Description: The Senior Data Quality Specialist is an expert in Data Quality and Observability, and will be responsible for the definition and implementation of a unified Data Quality and Observability ecosystem, including tooling and processes, and drive corresponding best practice across the company. Collaborate with Data and AI Governance peers, business and technology partners to define and implement a Data Quality and Observability strategy, that is clear, crisp and right sized for business objectives and data related compliance obligations across Booking. The new joiner will be in charge of the Data Quality standards and guidelines definitions and adoption. This role has autonomy over the delivery of their work, including requirements gathering, contribution to the solution design, overseeing tooling selection, implementation, integration, roll-out and adoption tracking across business units.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to the definition, review, update and roll-out of the Data Quality and Observability ecosystem and related standards, guidelines and playbooks.
  • Drive the collaboration with other departments involved in Data Quality and Observability.
  • Partner with the Data & AI Governance Solution Architect in ensuring architecture designs and tooling solutions are embedding Data Quality and Observability principles in the overall Data & AI Governance framework, also meeting the requirements of all strategic Data & AI initiatives and programs.
  • Gather requirements and define criteria for the selection of Data Quality and Observability tools, and participate in PoC evaluations.
  • Define and implement processes and guidelines for the Data Quality and Observability topics like Data Quality rules definition and execution through Data Quality tools, metrics and scores visualization, incident management, etc., contributing to their roll-out and adoption.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Data Management communities to develop strategies and standards for monitoring, failure detection, and data availability, to ensure data is available, trustworthy and secure.
  • Train engineering teams into Data Quality principles and implementation
    Train engineering teams into leveraging Data Lineage to support quality tracking and improvement
  • Lead proactive and reactive resolution of Data & AI Governance compliance risks with regards to Data Quality and Observability, reporting key KPIs to relevant stakeholders, including the Data & AI Governance board.
  • Collaborate, develop and manage data quality scorecards and dashboards within the Booking communities.
  • Ensure Data Quality alignment and governance with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, scalability and adoption in the Booking communities.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in designing and implementing Data Quality and Observability ecosystems in large-scale organisations.
  • Expert knowledge of Data Quality and Observability principles, processes and standards, recognizing the differences between OLTP and OLAP systems.
  • Experience with at least two Data Quality tools from the market (Monte Carlo, Ataccama, Collibra DQ, Informatica DQ, Great Expectations, Ab Initio etc.).
  • Good knowledge of Data Governance capabilities like Data Cataloging, Data Profiling, Critical Data Elements.
  • Familiar with Data Lineage, to support quality tracking and improvement.
  • Experience with a wide range of data platforms in both OLTP and OLAP spaces including cloud solutions.
  • Experience in defining requirements and roadmaps, and managing stakeholders.
  • Familiar with the contractual aspect (e.g., licensing, pricing, contract terms) of selecting tools and vendors from the market.
  • Good knowledge of Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience working in a virtual team also including managing contractor resources
  • Agile mindset, previous experience working in an Agile environment
  • Skilled in clear and concise communication, storytelling, and securing stakeholder buy-in.
