Introduction to the job

As Department Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary department responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a product used directly in the fabs of ASML’s customers. These applications provide critical insights that help chipmakers optimize performance, improve yield, and enhance process control. This role reports directly to the cluster manager.

Role and responsibilities

You will lead through a “teams-of-teams” structure, empowering multiple agile teams to deliver high-quality, production-ready software (and functional) solutions. Your department owns the product lifecycle—from requirements definition and design, through development, testing, and DevOps. This role is pivotal in aligning strategy, execution, and people development to ensure successful delivery of the product, while embedding DevOps practices, AI-driven insights, and modern software engineering across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a department of ~150 FTE across approximately 6 groups, including software engineers, physicists, AI specialists, senior project leaders and technical experts.
  • Drive operational excellence, people development, and delivery of the Litho Insights product through a scalable teams-of-teams model.
  • Own the full product lifecycle: from requirements gathering and architecture to development, testing, deployment, and addressing customer requests.
  • Ensure the department has the full scope of competencies needed to deliver: software engineering, functional expertise, DevOps, test automation, etc.
  • Define and execute the department roadmap aligned with ASML’s product and technology strategy.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with System Engineering, Customer Support, Applications Engineering, and global development partners.
  • Champion the adoption of DevOps, AI/ML technologies, and agile methodologies.

Education and experience

  • PhD or Master’s in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in high-tech or semiconductor industry, with 5+ years in senior people leadership roles, leading leaders of leaders.
  • Proven track record in managing large, international, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of software development, system integration, and functional engineering.
  • Experience with DevOps, cloud-native development, and AI/ML applications is a strong plus.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Fluent in English; strong communication and interpersonal skills.

All development activities are conducted within the constraints of specification, time and budget as demanded by market conditions. How do we make this happen?
