How do you make our customers happy?

By ensuring value from supplier relationships is captured, and supplier relations underscore our commitment to responsible e-commerce. As our Manager of SRM & Sustainable Procurement, you’ll build frameworks that transform bol’s perspective on suppliers – from lowest-cost bidders to comprehensive value creators. Your team will develop a supplier governance framework that expertly balances commercial goals with ESG ambitions, proving that responsible sourcing isn’t a utopian ideal but a competitive advantage. Through strategic supplier relationships, third-party risk management, and sustainability integration, you’ll help bol become the platform that customers trust not just for convenience but for a clean conscience. Doing good is good business? You bet! 😊

The biggest challenge

Building supplier relationship management and sustainable procurement capabilities from scratch. You’ll navigate possible tensions between ambitious sustainability goals and commercial realities, meet regulatory requirements, and solve implementation challenges. How do you embed ESG considerations into procurement decisions without paralyzing the business? How do you elevate compliance from a checkbox exercise into something more meaningful? Success requires influencing across the organization without formal authority. Not always easy because category managers are intrinsically focused on pricing, legal teams on compliance, finance teams on costs, and ESG champions everywhere will always want you to go further. You’ll need to prove that ethical supplier management creates value beyond the purchase price.

What you'll do as the Manager of SRM & Sustainable Procurement

Reporting to the Director of Procurement, you’ll establish and lead a new function that transforms supplier relationships from strictly transactional to primarily strategic. With a hybrid team of 5-7 (4 internal, 3 external), you’ll build SRM and sustainability capabilities that position bol as a responsible leader of the platform economy.

Together with your team, you’ll develop and implement a company-wide SRM framework, creating methodologies for supplier segmentation, risk assessments, performance management, and strategic partnership development. But this isn’t ‘just’ about classifying suppliers in tiers – it’s about rethinking how bol creates mutual value with its entire NFR supply base. Your governance structures will ensure Tier 1 strategic partners become willing collaborators in innovation and growth.

As bol’s strategic lead for Third-Party Risk Management, you’ll build systems that make compliance graceful rather than grating. Your ESG integration extends well beyond automated systems as you’ll also translate ambitious goals into practices that suppliers can (and want to!) implement. From identifying and eliminating modern slavery in the supply chain to emissions transparency, you’ll be living proof that responsible sourcing drives both risk mitigation and value creation. For this role fluency in Dutch is required.

  • Lead and develop the SRM & Sustainable Procurement team (5-7 FTE) while influencing broadly across functions
  • Design, promote, and implement an enterprise-wide SRM strategy, including frameworks procedures, and tooling
  • Supporting the business in delivering a consistent supplier management approach
  • Strategically lead our Third-Party Risk Management, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Translate ESG objectives into actionable procurement practices across the supplier base
  • Own supplier segmentation, performance management, and contract governance
  • Build capabilities and awareness of responsible sourcing and sustainability
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement of supplier collaboration
  • Act as a thought leader on supplier governance, risk, and sustainable sourcing topics

Why you can make a difference

You bring 10+ years of procurement and/or ESG experience to the table, with proven expertise in supplier relationship management and risk mitigation. Your track record shows you can build capabilities from the ground up while navigating complex stakeholder landscapes. You know how to translate abstract sustainability concepts into practical procurement actions that suppliers embrace rather than endure. And you can onboard senior stakeholders. To you, ESG is not a compliance exercise but an opportunity to create long-term value.

  • - Checkbox champion Your ideal ESG program involves maximum paperwork and minimum impact
  • - Savings-only sourcer If it doesn't directly reduce costs, you're not interested in having the conversation
  • - Old school autocrat Without hierarchical authority to mandate compliance, you're utterly lost
  • + Partnership positivist You see suppliers as co-creators of value, not just vendors – building relationships that transcend purchase orders is your true ambition
  • + ESG commercialist You make sustainability profitable and compliance painless by embedding responsible practices into our business-as-usual
  • + Greenfield grazer You thrive on building from scratch, creating frameworks and capabilities that stand the test of time

Where you'll work

You’ll join Procurement as our mission is evolving from tactical buying to strategic value creation. In building our SRM & Sustainable Procurement capabilities, you’ll collaborate with Legal, Finance, ESG, and category teams, priming them for responsible sourcing. How can we satisfy regulators AND inspire suppliers? With procurement touching every facet of our business, you’ll help demonstrate that platforms can be both hugely profitable and highly responsible. Ready to develop supplier relationships that create value for business, society, and our planet? Show us how strategic partnerships can power sustainable growth!
