Web Administrator IISH Websites at the International Institute of Social History (IISH)

The International Institute of Social History (IISH) has an innovative approach to sharing information on its collections, archives, datasets, research output and events. The IISH creates dynamic metadata in various systems such as ArchiveSpace and Dataverse, which are transposed into Linked Data. The IISH Drupal website is another rich source of information, with content added via a CMS. This information is also transformed to Linked Data and combined with the metadata. All Linked Data is made findable via a search strategy and then made available via the IISH Website.

We are looking for a colleague who can coordinate the IISH’s web presence. The administrator:

  • is the central person between the IISH and its website and search engine suppliers;
  • is the point of contact for project domain owners, such as diamantbewerkers.nl and spanjestrijders.nl;
  • upkeeps and improves on the search strategy and search engine optimization;
  • monitors websites, reports on and fixes bugs, and creates web statistics reports. These activities are done with input from your colleagues at the various departments;
  • can migrate and archive content from old Drupal websites into the corporate website;
  • advises on the SEO, web content structure for iish.amsterdam and IISH project websites, for example on improving templates or enhancing the accessibility of websites.

Required skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of developing Drupal-based websites (having worked with XML/PHP/JSON);
  • Knowledge of user experience optimization (SEO, taxonomy, UX design);
  • Understanding the workings of APIs and how they benefit the IISH’s web presence;
  • Experience with project coordination;
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Empathic and open-minded attitude;
  • Affinity with the social sciences and humanities and digital representation of archives;
  • Knowledge of Linked Data (RDF) is an asset.

You will be working at the KNAW-IISH, specifically the Data & Augmentation department. The department is the go-to for both physical and digital users of IISH resources.
