Embedded systems internship: light simulator for i-line machines

Introduction

The Embedded SW Common and DUV department is responsible for the software of multiple machine types, on multiple levels. In this department, the Optical Column group creates, maintains and supports software for multiple elements. We provide both drivers and middle level applications that enable other departments to actuate the machine and achieve production with high performance.

Your assignment

ASML i-line machines use a mercury vapor lamp as the light source for imaging. Various devices are employed to adjust or control the lamp power.

This assignment aims to develop a simulation solution (Light Simulator) that replicates the behavior of the lamp. The assignment will involve the investigation, design, implementation, and testing of the Light Simulator.

Goal: The Light Simulator will operate within a simulated testing environment and be compatible with Linux. Additionally, the solution is designed to be extendable, allowing for the easy addition of more functionality in the future.

Your profile

To be a great match for this internship you:

  • Are a master student in Embedded Systems, Computer Science or a similar field.
  • Have a good understanding of C, C++ programming and testing.
  • Preferably also have experience with Python
  • Are able to work independently and autonomously, have a learning mindset and are open to challenge and being challenged.
  • Have strong communication skills and are fluent in English (verbal and written).

This is a master graduation or apprentice internship for a minimum of 6 months, for 4 to 5 days per week (at least 3 days onsite). The start date of this internship is October 2025.

Other requirements you need to meet

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
