Supply chain engineering internship: identify logistical processes

Introduction to the job

At our TWINSCAN Factory (TF) in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, we make and install modules and systems that are part of our deep ultraviolet (DUV) business, consisting of XT and NXT products.

At our FAB NXT department, we produce NXT machines in the execution department, consisting of sub-module build (MB), module build (MB), system integration (SI), system performance (SP), prepack (PP) and logistics (LO),  before our install operations (IO) team delivers the machines to the customer. Our process improvement (PI) department takes care for optimization of the machine process. And technical support (TS) are responsible to resolve all technical issues.

This assignment takes place within the module build (MB) department, where we assemble and qualify critical modules for NXT systems, that eventually are being integrated at system integration (SI) into an integrated system.

Your assignment

Twinscan Factory is in the middle of a transition from static building process towards flow line process. This is to eliminate waste, improve quality and gain efficiency which all results into higher output capability of our systems to best serve our end customers' needs. To enable this transition, it was decided to focus on a few model areas within the factory to invest time and resources to start developing best known methods which later will be used in other departments in order to fully transition from static to flow operations (lean).

Module build NXT is included in the model areas and is looking for improvements which will support the flow operations.

Main assignments as follows:

  • To identify the nonvalue add steps in the process (TIMWOODS) that are logistics related and could be eliminated from Module build NXT model areas
