Make your mark on our time as a System Engineer Intelligent Autonomous Systems at TNO in The Hague

About this position

Want to be a part of developing and evaluating responsible Intelligent Autonomous Systems? It’s not science fiction. Become a Systems Engineer at TNO in The Hague. Autonomous systems are increasingly being deployed for security and defence, but they also need to become smarter. To ensure that these systems can be used responsibly in operations, they have to be properly developed, tested, and evaluated. Smart systems should be intuitive and dependable at all times. TNO is contributing to the development, testing and evaluation of these smart systems. This allows us to guarantee quality and ensure that the systems can be used in operations in the right way.

What will be your role?

As a Systems Engineer at our Autonomous Systems & Robotics department in The Hague, you will work on various projects, developing and testing systems in multidisciplinary teams with different experts. You will coordinate the technical work together with the project manager and the project goals with various stakeholders, motivating the team to achieve the desired results.

You will be a driving force in the development of the intelligent autonomous systems: drawing up stakeholder needs and requirements, describing the operational concept, designing the system, creating verification and validation plans and test descriptions, coordinating integration, and carrying out evaluations. In doing so, you will work closely with team members, also serving as their mentor. You will also be in regular contact with clients on projects.

You will work on projects developing prototypes and products for clients, often within the defence and security domain. Depending on the project, this could mean working with technology from such fields as artificial intelligence (AI), sensor systems, and robotics.

What we expect from you

You want to use your knowledge to make an impact on society. As a Systems Engineer, you are an expert in system architectures and developing and evaluating complex algorithms for autonomous systems. Innovating and developing comes naturally to you. You know how to get things done and are able to translate scientific insights into practical applications. You balance a systematic approach with a pragmatic one.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • At least a completed Master’s degree in a technical field, preferably aerospace engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, or electrical engineering, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • At least 3 years of (practical) experience in developing and evaluating complex systems.
  • Experience in drafting requirements, designs, and test and integration plans, assisting in integration and test preparation, and coordinating experiments themselves.
  • Experience in managing, collaborating, and mentoring technical teams.
  • Experience in project acquisition is a plus.
  • Knowledge of smart autonomous systems.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4,500,- and € 6,500,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

Perhaps you would like to grow your career in the direction of commerce or consultancy? Or would you like to become a project manager? Immerse yourself in sustainable innovations? Or carve out a career as a technical expert?

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
