We are currently looking for a Systems Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area.

As a System Engineer, you will support the design, integration, and validation of high-performance systems for the space industry. The role focuses on projects involving spacecraft testing, satellite simulation systems, and advanced satellite communications, including laser communication technologies. The position is part of a multidisciplinary engineering team engaged in end-to-end system development, from requirement analysis through delivery and operational support.

Main responsibilities

Analyse customer requirement specifications (CRS) and Statements of Work
Perform system decomposition and design across hardware, software, and COTS components
Contribute to project planning, cost assessments, resource estimation, and risk evaluation
Lead and coordinate internal and external technical discussions and reviews
Develop and maintain comprehensive system design documentation, including test plans
Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR with stakeholders and clients
Oversee or execute system configuration and integration activities
Define and coordinate system-level test procedures and validation strategies
Provide input for procurement of system components
Report progress and key updates to the Project Manager

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Optical Engineering or Electronics
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a system engineering role
Strong teamwork, proactive attitude, and hands-on approach
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, especially in multidisciplinary environments
Familiarity with SDA, CCSDS, and ECSS standards is considered a plus
Experience with laboratory test equipment is advantageous
Understanding of modulation and coding techniques is a plus
Background or familiarity with the aerospace industry is an asset
