We are currently looking for a Systems Engineer to join the team in the Leiden Area​.

As a System Engineer, you will support the design, integration, and validation of high-performance systems for the space industry. The role focuses on projects involving spacecraft testing, satellite simulation systems, and advanced satellite communications, including laser communication technologies. The position is part of a multidisciplinary engineering team engaged in end-to-end system development, from requirement analysis through delivery and operational support.

Main responsibilities

  • Analyse customer requirement specifications (CRS) and Statements of Work
  • Perform system decomposition and design across hardware, software, and COTS components
  • Contribute to project planning, cost assessments, resource estimation, and risk evaluation
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external technical discussions and reviews
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system design documentation, including test plans
  • Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and TRR with stakeholders and clients
  • Oversee or execute system configuration and integration activities
  • Define and coordinate system-level test procedures and validation strategies
  • Provide input for procurement of system components
  • Report progress and key updates to the Project Manager

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Optical Engineering or Electronics
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a system engineering role
  • Strong teamwork, proactive attitude, and hands-on approach
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, especially in multidisciplinary environments
  • Familiarity with SDA, CCSDS, and ECSS standards is considered a plus
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment is advantageous
  • Understanding of modulation and coding techniques is a plus
  • Background or familiarity with the aerospace industry is an asset
