Account Director, Costco

Division: Consumer Products Division

Reports to: Commercial Lead, Club & New Business Development

What You Will Learn:

The Costco Account Lead is a unique role that provides an individual with the opportunity to be a business owner as well as a key contributor to the total Club & New Business Development sales team resulting in customer facing experience, high visibility internally and exposure to all facets of the Club Channel. In this unique role, your work will be broad, ranging from developing strategic business recommendations, to working collaboratively on cross-functional projects with partners at all levels of the organization, to project management and presentation to customers and internal Sr. leadership.

Mission and defining characteristics

  • Leverage entrepreneurial spirit to ideate, develop & implement customer strategy while consistently integrating latest trends and insights to modify as needed for channel acceleration.
  • Lead full execution and optimization of sales fundamentals to proactively drive shipments, net sales, and market share growth.
  • Category ownership and expert for the full CPD Brand portfolio at Costco.
  • Partner with and guide Customer Marketing & Analytics lead to develop selling stories and presentations as well as optimize reporting.
  • Member of CPD Club & New Business Development Sales team.

Main tasks

Customer Developer, Relationship Builder & Entrepreneur

  • Drive a customer-centric omnichannel approach and build a strong relationship with all relevant stakeholders at Costco across all categories.
  • Analyze and define the growth levers relevant to customer with specific focus on the shopper so selling is through shopper insights.
  • Propose and align the Brand Sales customer strategy with Commercial Team Lead.
  • Develop and align customer specific assortment strategy with brand leadership; manage financial review and alignment; drive end-to-end creation process.
  • Develop and negotiates JBPs with buyers.

Category Owner & Support

  • Drive category strategy agenda created by Brand Activation team as well as influence Brand Activation team with respect to what is needed to win in alignment with Brand priorities for Costco.
  • Engage multifunctional support for strategy implementation and 360 growth levers for category, including CRM.

Team Manager

  • Drive the business as customer leader, by collaborating with multifunctional team and animating peer functions: marketing, supply chain, finance, category development, Pep, Customer Marketing & analytics etc. High level of project management.
  • Help develop more junior team members (e.g., JSA, MT).

Results Driver & Contributor

  • Lead with an achievement-oriented mindset.
  • Win dollar share of category with best-in-class brand growth.
  • Build and achieve the omnichannel customer plan and results for category based on category strategy as lead seller.
  • Track sales and forecasting and proactively derive actions to address gaps and opportunities.

Qualifications/experience:

  • 5-7+ years’ experience in commercial - customer facing and internal brand strategy experience preferred
  • College Degree required; Masters is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of customer strategy and key levers as well as competitors
  • Deep knowledge of beauty and personal care
  • Ability to create an account specific selling story by utilizing a combination of syndicated data, POS and internal shipment information
  • Strong ability to build trusting relationships with cross functional partners and with client
  • Innovate in a collaborative manner
  • Self-motivated, results and solution oriented, strategic thinker
  • Superior time management, project management and prioritization skills
