Internship Opportunity in Biology/Life Science

Welcome to our team
The ATS-Bio Robustness EU/APAC department is an essential hub in our organization. This department is focused on assay development to improve analytical robustness. The team consists of eight employees, all of whom have extensive knowledge and experience in bioassay development. The team works closely with other departments within the company to achieve the stated goals.

Your internship assignment
Before a new batch of vaccine can be sold, the quality of the batch has to be confirmed by different QC tests. A test which confirms that the concentration and quality of antigen(s) is sufficient is a very important test. Currently, this is often done by vaccination of animals whereafter the induction of an immune response is investigated. Because of ethical reasons, our company would like to replace these tests by in vitro tests in which the concentration and quality of antigens is investigated by alternative tests such as immunoassays. Activities that you will perform depend on the specific project.

Your responsibilities

• Development of immunoassays to quantify antigens such as ELISA, AlphaLISA or Luminex.
• Characterization of monoclonal antibodies.
• Identify and isolate specific antigens to be able to discriminate between different strains.
• Providing a fresh perspective to the department by sharing your opinion.

The described tasks form the basic package and will often be performed independently after a proper training and learning period. These tasks may be supplemented with other projects and/or tasks on your own initiative or at the request of the organization.

What is required

• Fourth-year bachelor or master student in the field of Biology / Applied Life Science
• Familiarity with immunoassays
• Excellent English and/or Dutch communication skills, both written and verbal
• Available for a period of at least 7 months for 5 days per week
