Description of assignment

Currently, items are only ordered once a specification is released. Having an item forecast would allow to make better and more cost-effective decisions in the supply chain, and increase service levels towards projects. We would like to have more insights in future predictions, so they can be used for daily decision making.

Department description

Material Planning is part of Supply Chain Operations and plays a key role in the delivery of materials towards projects. The department closely collaborates with other departments such as Operational Supplier Management and Supply to Projects.

Tasks/responsibilities

Explore the feasibility of forecasting within Vanderlande:

  • Determine the conditions that need to be in place for successful forecasting.
  • Identify the necessary data and processes that must be established.

Investigate various forecasting techniques and models suitable for Vanderlande:

  • Explore different forecasting models (e.g., statistical, machine learning, AI-based).
  • Assess the feasibility and applicability of these techniques in Vanderlande’s context.
  • Evaluate the potential impact on the organization.

Provide actionable recommendations:

  • Recommend the most effective forecasting methods for Vanderlande.
  • Develop a step-by-step implementation plan to integrate these forecasting methods into current operations.
