Forecast Analyst at Eneco

You are situated at the heart of Eneco, right between production, sales, and trading. You work on complex and analytical challenges in the dynamic energy market. Our company values diversity and inclusion and strives to create a vibrant workplace in which everyone can grow and thrive personally and professionally.

Why choose Eneco?

The energy transition is in full swing and Eneco is leading the way. Our goal? To be fully climate-neutral by 2035. This applies to our own business activities, but also to the energy we supply to our customers. For example, we develop wind and solar farms ourselves, and we help customers take sustainable steps every day with smart products and good advice. Now that we are part of Mitsubishi Corporation, our impact has increased, and we are accelerating the transition. We need your expertise to drive this change. As a Forecast Analyst, you’ll play a key role in supporting Eneco's trading activities through cutting-edge analysis and modelling.

What you’ll do

The Forecasting Team within the Short-Term Desk at Eneco Energy Trade is responsible for delivering continuously updating forecasts of energy demand and renewable energy generation to support short-term energy trading. As a Forecast Analyst in this team, you will be responsible for maximizing Eneco’s financial trading results in short-term markets. This indirectly helps to make our 2035 climate ambition economically appealing. You will contribute by minimizing the (imbalance) costs of wind and solar production, as well as customer demand. With a fast feedback cycle, you will continuously seek ways to improve team performance.

We work closely with our Forecast Product Development team to develop, enhance and operationalize forecast products (e.g., in-house wind and solar power forecast models). You will collaborate with traders by providing insights and decision support. Additionally, you will deploy products that monitor and report on our trade portfolio.

Our team is young and diverse, with a good balance of men and women from various international backgrounds. As a result, our working language is English. Within our team, we have two roles: Daily Business Analysts and Forecast Analysts. The Daily Business Analysts are more involved in daily operations. However, operational work is key to understanding where we need to further develop our software products. Therefore, you will start this position alongside our Daily Business Analysts to build your knowledge of the energy market, our role in it, and our IT landscape. Later, if you are not part of the operations anymore, you will be on standby (during working hours) for issues that our operations team is unable to resolve independently. As a result, this role offers a well-balanced mix of hands-on work and coding. This empowers you to be creative, come up with improvements, and use your development skills for quick and tangible improvements, visible in a quick feedback loop.

Is this about you?

You bring:

  • A quantitative MSc
  • 4+ years of data science working experience
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Pro-actively initiating improvements and gathering feedback from traders
  • Your drive to get things done is key
  • Your approach is analytical but also hands-on and pragmatic
  • Eneco Energy Trade is a very dynamic environment. Targets change frequently based on market circumstances or business opportunities. We need you to be flexible and focused at the same time.

  • Relevant concepts include: DevOps, CI/CD, software testing, MLOps
  • Relevant technologies include: Git, Databricks, Airflow, Snowflake, Docker, Azure Cloud
  • You’ll work in a team with 10 colleagues and cooperate intensively with traders and IT. Good communication is crucial.
  • Knowledge and experience of energy markets is a plus

You’ll be responsible for

Tasks:

  • Collaborate with our Forecast Product Development team to develop, improve and validate forecasting models for wind/solar production and power/gas/heat consumption

  • Validating and analyzing data (e.g., identifying irregularities and outliers in forecasting model outputs)
  • Support Daily Business Analysts colleagues in operations

This is where you’ll work

At Eneco Energy Trade, some 150 colleagues work at the heart of the organization. This is where the supply and demand of energy converge. Where we bundle our own and external energy flows and ensure that there is enough energy to meet demand. The international team consists of several divisions: Sourcing & Pricing, Trading, Portfolio Optimization, Structuring & Organization, Business Development, Energy Operations & IT Management.
