Job Description

As a senior Cost Estimator at Corbion, you will be responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for our (global) capital investment projects at all phases of the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) process. Your role will encompass a wide range of participation within the project teams, for initial cost indications during the early idea generation phases to the final budgeting of larger EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) phase projects.

You will play a crucial role in helping the organization determine the feasibility of these projects from an estimation perspective and in key planning. Your critical view in identifying options for improvement will drive the team to develop better proposals.

Additionally, with your mechanical engineering background, you will provide teams with relevant input and reviews from this core discipline.

You will be a team member of the Global asset management department. This group is responsible for the global investment project guidance (way of working, standards, estimates and Capex portfolio management), as well as for the global maintenance & reliability program and (partly) project management.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing project documentation: Review project inputs, deliverables, specifications, and other related documents to develop accurate cost estimates for our CAPEX projects.
  • Preparing Detailed Cost Estimates: Estimate costs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and services. Capable of working within a wide variety of detail levels, from early FEL phases to projects moving towards the EPC phase.
  • Collaborating with project teams: Work closely with internal and external engineers, project managers, innovation teams, subject matter experts, site experts, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and reliable cost assessments, aligned with project goals and Corbion’s way of working. Seek options to improve the proposals and create optimum value for Corbion.
  • Conducting market research: Stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and market conditions to provide up-to-date cost data.
  • Maintaining cost databases: Ensure that cost data is accurately recorded and updated in our databases and systems.
  • Supporting financial planning: Assist in the preparation of financial plans providing detailed cost information and its phasing to stakeholders.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Support teams with your key mechanical engineering basics in early project phases, and ensure that the mechanical standards are incorporated.

Your main tasks:

  • Analyse blueprints, schematics, and other project documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates, and take a leading role for this.
  • Collaborate with engineers, R&D experts, operations specialists and external experts to gather data and cost numbers, to provide accurate cost predictions.
  • Consult with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing information and quotations, in close cooperation with the Corbion (Global) procurement group.
  • Evaluate project proposals with a value engineering mindset to identify and implement alternatives for improvement.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for various phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Assess and analyse project risks and incorporate necessary financial margins.
  • Utilize tools to calculate estimates and maintain the in-house estimate data.
  • Review historical data to evaluate costs for future projects and update the internal standards and guidelines.
  • Provide (innovation) project teams in early project phases with relevant mechanical engineering input to ensure effective design solutions, adherence to mechanical standards, and successful project outcomes.

Your qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven at least 5 years of experience as a CAPEX Cost Estimator, preferably within the chemical industry, with both brownfield and greenfield experience.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal network skills.
  • Attention to details and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Capable of working with varying levels of information details depending on the project phase.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Being a team member of a dynamic and forward-thinking organization and department, dedicated to making a positive impact on Corbion’s future.
