Join Alliander as a Senior System Operations Energy Expert

Working on managing flexibility in the electricity grid. That’s what you do as Senior System Operations Energy expert. With your keen eye, you will contribute to the energy transition. The energy transition is in full swing and system safety in this area must follow suit. In fact, thinking out of the box and continuing to learn is a must in this fast-moving field. You will make the energy grid smarter at Alliander.

In the operations team, you actively monitor the congested locations in the electricity grid in a highly automated environment. At System Operations we developed GAAS (Grid as a Service) to automatically activate flex contracts when exceedances of the congestion limits are expected in our short term forecasts. At the Operations Capacity Management team you are the key user of GAAS. Monitoring the system, taking additional steps when grid safety is threatened and alignment with the IT DevOps teams are part of your responsibility. Handling incidents and taking care of the business impact to the electricity grid is part of your responsibility. Other operational tasks relate for example to flex contract intakes, financial compensation of the curtailments and analysis of smart cable guard systems.

Next to the operational tasks, team OpCaM is involved in the tactical capacity management (to prepare for high loaded locations in the electricity grid in the upcoming 2 years) and setting requirements to the ART-SO for further improvements of GAAS. We also run pilots to test new and innovative options to solve congestion in the electricity grid. At the OpCaM team you are in touch with many different teams and colleagues within Alliander and operational contact persons from clients. Stakeholder management is one of your core competencies.

Alliander is one of the pioneers in the field of automation in energy. The OpCaM team is responsible for ensuring all the automations get into operations. Acting on high loaded locations and maximizing grid utilization by using flexibility. Being in the middle of the energy transition and experiencing the impact of congestion management in the grid. That’s what makes your job interesting.

This is how you work on the energy of today and tomorrow:

  • You are responsible for monitoring the network and you intervene when human action is required in an automated environment
  • You analyze data to identify the risks in congested areas and prepare for the next steps to get in control and allow more clients to the grid
  • You are responsible for handling a great, every day changing variety of IT incidents and take action across the various teams and experts to reduce the impact on the electricity grid as much as possible
  • You define requirements to the further development of GAAS and clarify to other stakeholders what is needed for our Operational Capacity Management

You complete our network

Did you know that Alliander is made up of different companies? Together with Liander, Qirion, Qterra, Dep, Firan and Entrnce, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people in the Netherlands.
