Job Description

Packaging Development/Technology Intern

Start date: January/February 2025

Duration: 5 to 6 months

Platform/Project: Multiple Teams (please see below).

Location: Nijmegen

Basic Requirements for all:

  • You should have strong communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal (Dutch is not a requirement but other languages are a plus)
  • You are enrolled at a university for at least 50% study load for the duration of the internship.
  • NOTE: EU working rights are required (Either you have EU Citizenship, you are studying in the Netherlands or have relevant student work visa)

Assignments and key activities:

  • Participate in new packaging design & materials development,
  • Supporting sustainable packaging projects (Rigid Plastic Packaging, Flexible Plastic packaging, Paper Packaging, Carbon Zero).

Examples:

  • Scouting of new technologies: identify materials and converting solutions (Technical research, Meetings with suppliers, Creativity sessions, Consumers Insights analysis…)
  • Feasibility study: verification of the technical feasibility (Tests in the lab, Trials on the production lines…). Estimation of the material costs and investments. Benchmarking versus standard. Life Cycle Analysis. Compliance with regulations, recycling process.

Specific Team Requirements:

  • Packaging Engineering/Technology, Chemistry Engineering, Packaging Sustainability, 4th year Bachelor or Master student with classes on packaging design/technology/polymers/sustainability.
  • Knowledge in packaging materials, packaging process, packaging legislations, packaging end of life process, and packaging lab tests
  • Knowledge in sustainability
  • Internship experience in packaging development/design or food/cosmetic/pharmaceutical company/packaging supplier is a plus
  • You are an analytical person, with good communication skills who can take initiative and ownership
