How do you make our customers happy?

By masterfully managing a subset of bol’s product portfolio, you’ll ensure that initiatives align with our mission to delight our 13 million customers. As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you’ll play a leading role in developing novel frameworks, processes, and tools that will shape how we prioritize and execute projects, maximizing the value of all endeavors. This with the goal to delight 13 million customers and 49,000 partner sellers with innovative solutions.

The biggest challenge

Your role requires a delicate balance of coordination, risk management, and capability building. You’ll need to collect critical inputs from various stakeholders, conduct thorough value analysis on product initiatives, and identify discrepancies and dependencies. Aligning annual and quarterly portfolio processes with other crucial activities, like QBRs and goal-setting, will be key. However, the biggest challenge will be pioneering new frameworks and tools to foster a culture of value-based thinking across our Product and Tech teams.

What you'll do as Senior Portfolio Manager

Reporting directly to the Head of Portfolio, you’ll be at the heart of bol’s decision-making and prioritization processes. In partnership with business, product, finance and tech counterparts, you identify and weigh requirements and opportunities and leverage those insights to propose prioritization lists. You’ll work with key stakeholders, constantly weaving in new or evolving perspectives and proactively gaining buy-in for portfolio decisions. The role calls for the ability to maintain a clear view of resources allocated to each domain and initiative, tracking the ROI of each initiative against planned returns. You’ll also be responsible for detailed communication of all portfolio activities, requests and to proactively surfacing risks so line management can act on this.

As for your exact playing field, that depends on your background and preferences. You could focus on optimizing processes, detailing timelines, tracking progress, and owning the creation and iteration of artifacts, such as intake templates. Alternatively, we invite you to develop standardized prioritization frameworks, bringing best practices to the organization, instilling the ‘framework mindset’ within the teams, and contributing to the development of a value model. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing a subset of bol's product portfolio, create insights on this portfolio & track Progress
  • Conducting complex stakeholder coordination and risk management
  • Developing and implementing new portfolio management frameworks and tools
  • Tracking and reporting on resource allocation and initiative ROIs
  • Driving process improvements or framework development (depending on the focus area)

Key qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in portfolio/project management, preferably in a tech-driven or e-commerce environment.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects and driving strategic initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data-driven decision making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Experience with portfolio management tools and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices and product management principles.

Where you'll land

You’ll be at the nexus of our product strategy, working with product, tech, and business teams across our organization to ensure our portfolio delivers maximum value. You’ll join a team of 2,900 people passionate about serving our 49,000 partner sellers and millions of customers. We’ve been reinventing retail since 1999, and with your help, we’re ready to take our strategic planning capabilities to the next level.
