The position

As an Environmental Engineer, you will be part of a versatile, dynamic and ambitious team that stands for corporate social responsibility and that makes a difference every single day. You are involved in offshore wind tenders and projects all over the world from tender phase to project implementation. The ideal candidate can be assigned on projects for the Dutch market as well as international projects.

Your responsibilities

As a member of the Environmental Engineering team the "Environmental Engineer – Offshore Wind" is a social, innovative and enthusiastic thinker that is involved in developing and implementing stakeholder and environmental & social management strategies and plans related to project setup/design and work methods during execution. But also will supervise/coach junior environmental engineers. Further responsibilities:

  • Communicating and discussing project execution plans, risks, and opportunities to/with stakeholders within the tender/project environment;
  • Managing risks related to project documentation (e.g., EIA, permits) and permit requests and compliance with permits; ecology, underwater sound, archaeology, UXO’s, soil pollution, etc., within the tender/project environment;
  • Managing risks/opportunities and stakeholders relationships within the tender/project environment;
  • Developing and translating innovative and sustainable applications towards specific projects (e.g., Building with Nature design, ecodesign);
  • Creating social and environmental awareness and commitment of all (project) employees of Van Oord;

Job requirements

For this position we are looking for somebody with an MSc or BSc degree in social and/or environmental science with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in preferably marine dredging and/or offshore wind construction projects in relation to stakeholder and/or environmental issues. It is also important that you have a solid understanding of governmental relationships and processes, understanding of a range of communications disciplines, and strong partnership and stakeholder engagement abilities, with expertise in influencing senior level stakeholders. To do your job well, these qualities would also come in handy.

  • Well-organized team player that can also work independently;
  • Good understanding of civil (marine infra, offshore wind) engineering;
  • Good understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the marine environment;
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing;
  • Preparedness to travel abroad if the job requires.
