Working in a dynamic environment with the opportunity to take responsibility and contribute to building a more sustainable world. At Van Oord, you have the freedom to work on projects, implement your ideas, and work on innovations.🌍

The position

As a project engineer, you will be involved in offshore wind projects from the beginning until the end. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of offshore wind projects, covering aspects from initial planning, design, fabrication, construction, installation, to handover to the client. You will combine your technical expertise with project management skills. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate communication and collaboration among various stakeholders.

Your job is dynamic as it involves working on projects that vary by location. You might work on a foundation project in the North Sea or a cable project in the United States. Working on a project brings many dynamic aspects but with one end goal: constructing a project together. This fosters close cooperation with team members from different disciplines.

The preparatory work will be done from our Gorinchem office. During the execution or fabrication of the project, you will be part of the team supporting this phase. The team may be located in the country where the project is executed.

Your responsibilities

  • Prepare project execution plans and strategies aligned with project goals and objectives.
  • Oversee technical design constructions, ensure compliance with standards, and optimize efficiency. Address technical challenges with solutions.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, subcontractors, stakeholders, and interact with multidisciplinary teams. Review and follow-up on internal and external documentation.
  • Identify and mitigate operational, technical, and environmental risks. Prepare and implement specific working methods with risk analysis.
  • Facilitate effective communication with stakeholders and manage expectations.
  • In this role, you will report to the project manager or works manager.

Job requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or civil engineering, preferably in offshore wind, offshore engineering, or maritime infrastructure.
  • Interest and affinity with the offshore (wind) industry.
  • Experience in supporting projects and managing external engineering and suppliers.
  • A good command of English, spoken and written, with strong communication and social skills.
  • An independent, practical, and creative person who can solve problems, is decisive, and able to work in a project team. A flexible attitude towards travel and work at project locations is required.

We offer

Working on a project could mean that you work on an arrangement. Within Europe, you will work 3 weeks at a project location and have 2 weeks off. Outside Europe, you work 6 weeks with 4 weeks off. Additionally, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience.
  • Additional allowances for working on board/on project locations abroad.
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per km).
  • 32 leave days per year.
  • Variable bonus.
  • Pension scheme.
