Are you an experienced scientist in the fields of acoustics and ultrasound research, and would you like to apply your academic knowledge to practical, societal applications? Make your mark and become a Senior Scientist in Ultrasound and Acoustics.

What will be your role?

At TNO, you will work within the Acoustics and Underwater Warfare division, where all our acoustic expertise converges. Our Acoustic Sensor and Sonar Systems department focuses on a variety of subjects, from sonar applications and noise control to ultrasonic systems. We measure sound, model sound to predict how it propagates through solids, water, and air, and develop advanced measurement concepts and data processing methods to extract useful information from measurements.

What will you do? As a Senior Ultrasound and Acoustics Scientist, you will work on multiple applied research and development projects. You will use your knowledge and experience to develop solutions that meet the needs of our clients across various domains. You will be involved in:

  • Designing, modeling, and experimentally validating new ultrasonic measurement equipment.
  • Developing innovative acoustic measurement algorithms and associated signal processing.
  • Actively contributing to existing R&D projects and developing new concepts.
  • Encouraging collaboration within and outside TNO.
  • Guiding and coaching junior scientists, helping them reach their full potential.

What we expect from you

  • A completed master's or PhD in a relevant field such as physics, electrical engineering, acoustics, or a similar study.
  • Extensive experience in R&D projects in the fields of ultrasound and acoustic research.
  • Proficiency in designing, modeling, and validating measurement equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of acoustic measurement algorithms and signal processing.
  • Excellent communication skills and a talent for collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.

The selection process

Please apply before the 6th of January, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting, we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks. The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check. A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO. As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (The Dutch General Information and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.
