Internship

Start date: February 2025

Assignment duration: 6 months

Department / Assignment Description

Vanderlande uses Automated Vehicles (AVs) for temporary storage of items in the system. For example when pallets with products for supermarkets need to wait until a truck arrives, or when a container with bags needs to wait until a flight is about to leave.

By implementing smart logic (filters and evaluators) to select storage positions, the system's performance can be optimized. For example, if the storage position algorithm would know at which loading dock the pallet would eventually be loaded into a truck, it could select a storage position nearby.

In this internship, you will discover how the process of storage with automated vehicles relates to the up- and downstream processes. Based on this knowledge, you can determine to which KPIs the system can be optimized (item travel time, AV utilization, AV driving distance, storage density, etc). And develop the algorithms to achieve such optimizations.

Responsibilities

  • You are expected to do a literature study. The most promising approach(es) found in the study combined with your own ideas is then input for practical examination and evaluation using a method of choice.
  • You will report your findings, results, and recommendations in a final report and work together with a multi-disciplinary team on FLEET (Automated Vehicles) developments and support the team in random tasks.

Hard Skills

  • Knowledge of test frameworks, controls engineering, and cloud-based deployment (Azure, Kubernetes)
  • ISTQB Foundation or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience with JIRA, CI/CD, and configuration management
  • Design, develop, and execute automated test scripts using latest tools such as Gherkin, or similar
  • Knowledge of data analytics and visualization tools

Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Independent and proactive
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Define and co-develop precise software models that emulate hardware components and systems together with Emulation and Simulation development team
  • Develop and implement strategies for digitizing test processes and procedures
  • Design and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate digital testing solutions
  • *Mandatory enrolment in a Dutch Education System & resident of The Netherlands
