Join Our Team as an ALM Modeller

Do you enjoy exploring new and innovative ways to create financial models? Then this position is for you!

In this role, you can immerse yourself in the intriguing world of models. Maintain close contact with various teams within the bank and continue your journey in predictive modelling at a bank where people take center stage.

About the Job

Increase your knowledge of risk management and modelling. Continuously improve predictive models used for balance sheet management, while translating and incorporating ever-changing regulations into them. Your models secure compliance and meet demands in our changing environment. For example, consider the consequences of prolonged low interest rates on the behaviour of our clients’ savings accounts. Your models enable optimal management and hedging of the interest rate risk, credit spread risk, and liquidity risk position of the bank.

As an ALM Modeller, you have a unique view of the activities of de Volksbank. You will act as a quantitative analyst and data scientist to develop behavioral models used for interest rate, credit spread, and liquidity risk management from start to finish. You’ll be involved in every step of the model lifecycle, from development and implementation to reviewing and supporting the validation of market risk models.

Working in an agile team dedicated to ALM models, you’re responsible for more than modelling. You’ll play an active role in translating the requirements of the model owner into creative solutions while supporting the Product Owner in achieving the team’s mission. At de Volksbank, you continue to evolve and develop your own full potential, moving to other teams and roles depending on your ambitions and interests.

About the Modelling Department

You will join the ALM Modelling team within the Balance Sheet Management department, working in a team dedicated to model development and implementation. You will connect with other model development teams responsible for Regulatory Capital modelling and IFRS modelling, all quantitative professionals sharing a drive to continuously improve our predictive risk models. People matter to us, which is reflected in our working environment.

De Volksbank has a warm and inclusive culture, and colleagues are approachable and helpful. You are encouraged to take on responsibilities, allowing you to make an impact on the organization. We incorporate Agile and lean techniques to further increase our transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Your Competences

You thrive on working in teams because together you achieve results that matter. Your eagerness to learn helps you continuously improve your skills. By putting your communication skills to good use, you excel in stakeholder management, convincing internal users of the value of your models. As a medior, you help the junior team members contribute to the team goals.

You also have:
  • A Master’s degree or PhD in econometrics, mathematics, physics, or similar.
  • At least three years of experience in a relevant field such as quantitative financial modelling, model development, and/or model validation.
  • Programming skills and experience in analyzing large data sets (experience with MATLAB and Python is particularly valuable).
  • A strong drive to gain more expertise in model development and banking regulations.
  • An excellent command of English and the ability to work in a diverse, international team of professionals.

To be sure if you are legally allowed to perform work in the Netherlands for the Volksbank, you must meet the following conditions: a valid residence permit, a home address in the Netherlands, and a social security number. Unfortunately, we do not support relocation activities.

What You Get from Us
