Superintendent Offshore Pipeline Installation at Van Oord

Working on various offshore projects and exploring the world at the same time. That’s the life of a Superintendent Offshore Pipeline Installation at Van Oord. Plus, you will work in a close, hard-working team that, alongside hard work, creates moments to relax as well.

Your work is diverse and involves international offshore projects varying in scope. One moment you might be digging a trench in Saudi Arabia and, the next, building a cofferdam in Mexico, laying a pipeline in Guyana, or dumping rocks in Australia. Working on projects brings a dynamic environment where all disciplines collaborate in a team of 50-500 employees with the same goal in mind. This fosters a close relationship between the team members. Besides hard work, there are opportunities for a karaoke night, a poker tournament, or a volleyball match on your day off.

Your Responsibilities

As a Superintendent, you are responsible for the preparation, execution, and progress of the project, keeping in mind specific project requirements and safety. Without your efforts, the project team and crew will lack sufficient information and/or resources to perform their jobs effectively. You act as the bridge between project management and operations, ensuring efficient project execution.

  • You align with the project team on site and crew on board regarding project progress and planning.
  • You discuss work instructions and safety requirements with the operational team during toolbox meetings.
  • You organize crew changes, food on board, spare parts, and other logistical matters.
  • You manage local subcontractors.
  • In case of changes in the project's scope, you find solutions and coordinate them with all stakeholders.
  • You inform project management with reports on the current status of the project.

Job Requirements

Most of the time, you will be working in a rotational schedule at one of our project locations or on board our vessels. During the preparation phase, you may be assigned to work at our Gorinchem office. Projects vary in content, ranging from trenching & backfilling, pipeline installation, cofferdam installation to SBMs, etc. While informing and involving the project team, crew, client, and other stakeholders, your communication skills and drive are crucial. Your independence and proactivity ensure challenges are quickly resolved, and your decisiveness helps the team achieve optimal results.

Furthermore, for the role as a superintendent, you have:

  • a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or civil engineering;
  • operational experience on offshore projects or on board offshore vessels;
  • a good command of the English language, spoken and written;
  • a flexible attitude towards working abroad;
