Senior technical buyer

Our company, listed on the NYSE stock exchange, boasts global sales of €600 million and approximately 2,500 employees. We have production facilities in Spain, the UK, and in Hengelo (Ov.) with a distribution center in Ede. Regions include America and Asia/China.

We specialize in manufacturing special tools, primarily 'heavy lifting' solutions, at our Hengelo facility. Initially project-based, we are now focusing on standardizing production to support low-volume series production.

Our Hengelo facility employs 130 people: 90 in Production, 15 in Engineering, 10 in Supply Chain & Procurement, and 15 in other departments. Our global procurement is managed from the UK. We take pride in having supplied all lifting equipment to Mammoet for the salvage of the nuclear submarine Kursk in the Barents Sea.

Function

You will report to the manager of supply chain & procurement for the Hengelo location, who reports to the Operations director. The procurement team includes two young operational buyers, two senior buyers, an administrative assistant, and you.

Our direct purchasing in Hengelo totals approximately €25 million across categories such as hydraulics, raw material/machined parts, electronics, seals, and fasteners. Raw material/machined parts are the most complex, while other categories mainly involve catalog items. The spend per category is roughly €5 million with 230 suppliers (including indirect purchasing). We mainly collaborate with local suppliers.

As we shift from project-based to serial production, we require improved purchasing arrangements in the form of contracts with fixed suppliers. This necessitates accurate master data in our ERP system and enhanced supplier management, which is still developing. Hengelo operates with a 'preferred supplier base'.

In this role, you will manage a category based on your expertise. Collaboration with engineering and fellow buyers is crucial, as is fostering a shift in mindset from project-based to serial production among colleagues. Managing supplier contracts effectively and elevating internal processes to enhance purchasing maturity is expected.

Your Profile

• HBO working/thinking level
• Tactical procurement experience in a manufacturing environment (mechanical engineering or hydraulics)
• Able to read and review technical drawings
• Strong communicator
• Interest in improving the organization

• Salary up to approx. €80,000 gross per year (full-time), depending on knowledge and experience
