Credit Risk Analyst

As a Credit Risk Analyst, you will leverage data analytics to optimize risk/reward decisions within BUK Unsecured Lending, covering various products and new launches. You will design credit policies across the customer lifecycle, ensuring loss rates stay within risk appetite while achieving expected rewards. Supporting the commercial team, you will align with business goals and conduct in-depth analysis on portfolios using data from various sources. You will develop reports to establish credit performance and contribute to monthly Risk Management Committee and senior stakeholder meetings, providing ad-hoc insights and support to the wider CRO teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sourcing data from various warehouses and partners.
  • Producing high-quality recommendations for underwriting strategy and exposure optimization.
  • Providing insights to support risk strategies and P&L/impairment targets.
  • Monitoring credit policy performance, highlighting trends, and driving corrective actions.
  • Producing and maintaining BAU reports.
  • Responding to senior management requests with clear and accurate data.
  • Communicating proposed strategy changes effectively to team leaders and stakeholders.
  • Influencing ongoing communications with senior business stakeholders, including Finance, CRO, Decision Analytics, and Commercial heads.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Practical experience in using analytics to solve complex problems.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, conditional formatting, data validation, and logical functions.
  • Proficiency in SAS/SQL or similar software packages.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint.
  • Ability to challenge and speak up to drive the right outcomes for the business and customers.
  • Capability to work independently, manage multiple stakeholders, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Highly Valued Skills

  • Academic background in a mathematical discipline such as mathematics, statistics, or physics.
  • Excellent quantitative skills with exceptional analytical abilities and logical thinking.

Purpose of the Role

To manage and optimize the bank's overall credit risk exposure by monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the creditworthiness of its lending portfolio.

Accountabilities

  • Monitoring the financial performance and risk profile of the entire lending portfolio, including individual borrowers, sectors, and geographic regions.
  • Analysis of credit trends, identify early warning signs of potential borrowers' issues, and assess the impact of economic and market developments on the portfolio.
  • Development and utilization of quantitative models and risk forecasting tools to measure and predict potential credit losses.
  • Performance of portfolio stress testing exercises to assess the impact of various economic and market scenarios on the portfolio's risk profile.
  • Definition and setting of portfolio, segment and customer risk appetite, policy and limits. Overseeing first line execution within these parameters.
