Your Role as Senior GIS Developer

You will contribute to the development of Stationsdata.nl, the central platform where all station information is consolidated and displayed on a map. Stationsdata.nl is an internal website featuring a collection of web applications built using Esri software (Web App Builder and Experience Builder). Through various apps, NS colleagues can access, manage, and analyze information to simplify asset management and ensure all stations in the Netherlands are comfortable and welcoming. Some of the information is also made accessible through APIs to other applications inside and outside of NS. Your work directly influences your colleagues and impacts the experience of travelers, station visitors, and tenants in the station area.

Working on Stationsdata.nl involves:

• Managing the geographic database where locations of various station areas and assets are stored.
• Adding new functionalities to existing apps to make information more accessible and searchable.
• Building new apps using Esri software.
• Automating the release of new and additional data from various source systems (via APIs).
• Conducting geographic analyses using ArcGIS and FME to combine and enrich data.
• Ensuring a reliable and secure platform that meets security and architectural guidelines.
• Documenting clearly and organizing the products 'behind the scenes'.
• Setting up and improving development pipelines with Azure Pipelines and GaiaBuilder.

Additionally, we expect you as a senior to support the rest of the team. With your extensive GIS knowledge, you are a valuable sparring partner for fellow developers regarding architecture and implementation choices and can help them find smart solutions when a problem becomes particularly challenging. Given your comprehensive understanding of possibilities, you can also assist the product owner in translating user wishes into concrete development objectives with clear acceptance criteria.

Working Environment

You will join the DevOps team Stationsdata within the IT department of NS Stations. It's a multidisciplinary and diverse team consisting of six developers, an architect, a UX designer, a scrum master, and a product owner. We work two days a week in the Utrecht Central office, where we also often indulge in a lunch walk through the city center. For the rest of the week, you are free to choose your workplace. Regardless, we have a lot of daily contact and take time to chat about non-work-related topics. Additionally, you have numerous opportunities to follow training or courses and attend events.

Besides your team, you'll collaborate with other teams within the IT department; for example, to set up integrations or align with architecture and security guidelines. Additionally, you'll have direct communication with 'clients' – colleagues within NS Stations who focus on managing, developing, and exploiting all 400 stations in the Netherlands and strategic real estate surrounding the railways.

Job Requirements

• You have a university-level working and thinking capacity supplemented with several years of relevant work experience.
• You are analytically strong and capable of translating 'questions' into solutions within the GIS platform, with a clear vision on architecture and implementation choices.
• With your broad technical knowledge and collaborative skills, you help the team build the best solutions.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with the Esri suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, WebApp Builder, Experience Builder).
• Extensive knowledge and experience with analyzing and processing geographic data via FME.
• Knowledge and experience with Python, GIT, MS SQL databases, and Azure (API management, devops, pipelines).
• Knowledge and experience with GaiaBuilder, Bentley Projectwise, and creating custom widgets for Experience Builder in Javascript is a plus.
