Ocean of Possibilities at Damen Naval

Join our family and be part of the leading force in naval shipbuilding. At Damen Naval, with over 1,200 professionals based in The Netherlands, Romania, and Germany, we design and build advanced naval vessels for global customers. As a division of the family-owned Damen Shipyards Group, our passion for technological innovation and sustainable solutions drives us to push the boundaries in naval shipbuilding. Are you ready to be part of our team?

The Role: Tender Engineer Electrical & Automation

As the Tender Engineer Electrical & Automation in the Proposals department, you will be responsible for the conceptual and contract design of electrical and automation systems (e.g., power generation and distribution, propulsion, platform automation, cable installations, navigation systems) for our cutting-edge naval vessels. You must comply with all requirements and regulations and come up with innovative design solutions as part of a commercially viable and attractive proposition.

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary tender team, you’ll demonstrate a winning mentality, excellent numerical and digital insights, and a penchant for crafting compelling documents to win over customers. Post-tender, you'll ensure a smooth transition towards our engineering department for detailed engineering and realization. Travel to our offices in Vlissingen and Schiedam will be frequent.

Key Accountabilities

As the Tender Engineer Electrical and Automation, your responsibilities include:

  • Defining general system architectures (Single Line Diagram, Automation Architecture), weight, power and cost estimations, electrical load balances, and (propulsion) system configurations as part of the design and tender package.
  • Contributing to requirements analysis, drafting electrical & automation engineering specifications, and supporting subcontractor quotation requests and evaluations for preliminary equipment selection and budget allocation.
  • Evaluating designs against requirements and preparing corresponding reports.
  • Writing technical documents, contract specifications, and reports, effectively communicating complex concepts and data to customers and subcontractors.
  • Participating in discussions with customers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders on technical and commercial aspects of proposed solutions.
  • Supporting cost evaluations provided by subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with internal departments to optimize project outcomes.

Skills & Experience

To excel as the Tender Engineer Electrical and Automation, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • At least one year of relevant experience in electrical design concepts and practices, preferably in complex maritime (tender) projects.
  • Excellent writing skills, capable of delivering compelling text, figures, and calculations encompassing specific technical details and specifications.
  • A commercial mindset to create viable yet attractive technical and financial forecasts and propositions.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.Excellent command of the English language both written and verbal, with a preference for Dutch; willingness to learn Dutch is required.
  • Willingness to travel abroad occasionally and frequently to our Vlissingen and Schiedam offices.
  • Excellent reference antecedents as a pre-employment security screening is a standard part of the recruitment procedure.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are required; candidates with NL/EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality/passport are not eligible due to the military nature of our projects.

At Damen Naval, we highly value our employees and support their professional and personal development. Our offerings include:
