Job Description

As an intern at our Terminal in Vlaardingen, you will focus on researching the impact of the Rising Water Level to ensure sustainable and safe operations for the coming years. Vopak Vlaardingen manages approximately three hundred storage tanks, ten berths for inland and/or sea vessels, and several quay walls. Our goal is to remain safely accessible 24/7 and prevent damage to assets. In addition to researching the impact, you will determine the control measures for Vopak Vlaardingen. The Asset Owner of Vopak Vlaardingen will be your internship supervisor, and you will collaborate with engineers within the Engineering department at Vopak Vlaardingen.

Requirements

  • You are enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field such as Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Civil Engineering.
  • Affinity with working in the (petrochemical) industry.
  • Eager to contribute to sustainable asset deployment in the industry.
  • Ability to work purposefully to effectively contribute to determining the control measures that Vopak Vlaardingen needs to take.
  • Experience with data visualization is a plus.
  • Good command of both Dutch and English.
  • Good analytical skills, proactive work attitude, and ease of collaborating with a diverse group.

Daily Activities

During your research internship, you will engage in various tasks daily with the aim to:

  • Combine asset (elevation, etc.) and climate measurement data from the field with data from climate models.
  • Determine the impact for Vopak Vlaardingen, a 24/7 company on the Maas River.
  • Determine control measures for the Vopak Vlaardingen terminal to prevent asset damage and ensure reliable and safe operation in the future.
