What you'll do:

As a Financial Controller you will be part of the Finance team of ACT Commodities, working with an international product and client portfolio. This makes for a very diverse, challenging and dynamic environment, which reflects in the job as well. Because we are currently experiencing rapid growth in our scale-up phase, our departments are going through changes and process improvements which often includes new software implementations. You will get the chance to experience this new era of business at ACT and have an impact by making your ideas heard. We want someone open-minded, eager to learn, assertive, who can think outside the box and have a service-minded attitude and an energetic personality.

The Commodities Finance team includes the LOC Commodities Financial Director, two financial controllers and five accountants. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be responsible to execute financial control and accounting services towards timely, reliable and complete closing and reporting. You will work in close coordination with the Finance Director and the wider Backoffice finance , Operations , quality control and front office teams. In a nutshell, your tasks will be:

  • Apply proper accounting concepts within end-to-end processes
  • Working across disciplines with commercial and operations team on trade cycle, as well as other key stakeholders in the organization (risk, treasury and other controllers including group controlling team)
  • Reconciliation of the balance sheet and P&L including reviewing gross margin, unrealized margin, stock and key account reconciliations with team of Financial Controllers and Finance Leadership
  • Accurate and timely VAT reconciliations performed to ensure declarations submitted to tax authorities on time
  • Contributing to accounting memos ad hoc
  • Checks performed on postings to correct GLs, product groups, profit and cost centres
  • Accruals and provisions are calculated and appropriately supported
  • Reviewing high-level movements of balance sheet and P&L on a monthly basis
  • Coaching / guiding / mentoring less experienced team members
  • Contributing to an efficient and effective external audit process
  • Leading operational efficiency projects with regards to accounting processes and reporting

Who you are:

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance/Commerce or other relevant study (Bachelor Accountancy preferred)
  • At least 3 years’ of experience (within Big 4 Audit or commodities trading preferred)
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and commodities accounting (particularly IFRS 9 13 and 15 and IAS 2)
  • RA, ACCA or equivalent is a requirement
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge and use of English (written and spoken)
  • Quantitative skills and mindset: Proven Advanced Excel (pivots, complex formulas)
  • Knowledge of or interest in, European energy markets
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a plus
  • Self-starter mentality, resilient, ability to work well under pressure, high attention to details, well organised and ability to adapt to change
  • Continuous process improvement mindset
  • Passion for coaching of junior team members
