The position

Do you want to be the driving force behind advanced ship and control systems and convert your passion for technological innovation into successful projects? At Van Oord you get the opportunity to bring your ideas to life and play a crucial role in optimizing our operational processes.

As an Automation Engineer you play a crucial role in specifying, developing, implementing and maintaining control systems on our ships. Your expertise ensures that complex process and automation projects are completed successfully. This is done by working effectively with various stakeholders, colleagues and subcontractors, with the focus on translating and implementing sustainable technical systems on board.

Your Workplace

You are part of the Process Control team with 9 other specialists. Our Process Control team falls under the Technology cluster within our Ship Management Department and is responsible for safe, efficient, sustainable systems on board of various ships. You work intensively with various disciplines within the Automation and Electrical Engineering team. This position is based at our head office in Rotterdam.

Your responsibilities

  • You are able to convert complex issues and operational needs into technical specifications and you draw up functional descriptions for both ship and control systems;
  • You are adept at planning, coordinating and executing projects within established timelines and budgets. You are able to oversee the technical scope of the projects, identify and manage risks. You do this by using your technical knowledge of process control such as control technology, PLC control, SCADA systems, hydraulics and other relevant technologies that are used to monitor and manage industrial processes;
  • You guarantee standardized working methods within the department and ensure that subcontractors work in accordance with department standards;
  • You supervise and document acceptance tests at subcontractors. You are also involved in commissioning automation systems on board of our ships;
  • You are innovative and open to exploring and implementing new technologies and methods.

Job requirements

You are a driven person who can function independently within your own field. You are open to input and can collaborate effectively with other disciplines thanks to your communication skills. You are able to convey complex technical information in an understandable way to non-technical stakeholders and provide reports for management. Do you also meet the requirements below? Then apply by completing the form below!

  • You have at least HBO working and thinking level;
  • You have at least 5 years of relevant work experience in the field of automation;
  • You master the English language, both spoken and written;

We offer

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:
