About this position

This internship will be carried out within the Sustainable Technologies for Industrial Processes (STIP) group of TNO, which is actively involved in projects focusing on transition towards a low-carbon future by industrial innovation. This internship will be a part of NWO funded project called ReCoVR which aims to develop electrically driven separation technologies for the recovery of valuable resources.

What will be your role?

In this internship, you will carry out experimental work in developing an electrochemical separation technique namely super capacitive swing adsorption (SSA). This technology can be carried out at low temperature and pressure conditions using inexpensive and environmental friendly materials, making it attractive as compared to current conventional CO and CO2 separation techniques that are energy demanding. With this investigation different possibilities for separation of various species can be explored for a sustainable industrial processes primarily focusing on reduction of CO and CO2 emissions. Additionally, you will compare this SSA technology with other alternative CO separation methods like electro-swing adsorption which will be developed by the collaborating partners from the ReCoVR. You will also do a feasibility study of these technologies, including the CAPEX,OPEX and energy efficiency alongwith the current benchmark processes for CO separation.

What we expect from you

You are an enthusiastic WO/ Master student looking for an internship for 5-6 months. You have a chemical engineering, material science/electro-chemistry background and are eager to learn more about separation and conversion techniques.
