We specialize in creating customized optomechatronic and vision systems, supporting our customers from the initial concept through to final assembly. By integrating optics/photonics, optomechanics and software into coherent and robust solutions, we enable technological progress in the most demanding applications. In doing so, we build on our extensive and fundamental knowledge of the properties of light.

Wat ga je doen?

As Optical Engineer you will develop complex optical systems for various customers. Typical applications include, but are not limited to:

• Lens systems for camera set-ups or projection optics
• Laser beam delivery and beam conditioning systems, for example for high-end laser satellite communication applications.
• Optical probing systems for precision measurements of dimensions & distances, 3D coordinates, surface defects, or surface metrology.
• Illumination optics for high-precision microscopes, industrial lighting or computer vision applications.

You will be responsible for designing optical systems, performing trade-off studies, error budgeting and tolerance analysis. You will be involved in the full life cycle of product development, and you will contribute to the verification and qualification of the created solution. In addition, you provide technical content support to the project managers in the transfer of the project result to the customer. You play an important role as a sparring partner for your colleagues in a strongly interactive, multidisciplinary environment.

Together with a project manager, you oversee and manage the process from quotation to implementation at the client's site. Typically, you take the role of domain specialist. You monitor technical progress, planning, and budget and take action where necessary. You ensure good communication with the client, cohesion within the project team, and internal coordination within Demcon.

Wat breng je mee?

• PhD or MSc in physics (optics, photonics, imaging), engineering physics or other comparable qualification.
• Technical background in either optical engineering, lasers, microscopy, imaging or optics/photonics design.
• Hands-on experience in optical design using Zemax, Code V or any other raytracing software.
• Conceptual ability, persuasiveness, courage to make decisions and you can think “out-of-the-box”.
• You are used to working together with specialists from other disciplines, e.g. mechanical engineers.
• You are curious, enthusiastic and flexible, show initiative and perseverance, are customer-oriented, and have good communication skills.
• Fluent command of the Dutch and/or English language and comfortable to work in international teams.
• Competence in data analysis and algorithm development in Python or MATLAB are a plus.
