You will work in an exciting international project that develops and validates approaches for One Health antimicrobial resistance surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa as part of an enthusiastic team with different expertises. As part of this project, you will analyse mobile genetic elements in metagenomic data from hospital, community-level and household samples. You will further develop an educational workshop on bioinformatics methods and conduct the workshop at the partner sites.

This position will be situated at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, in the department of Global Health, where we strive to improve human health and create the healthcare of tomorrow, equitably and globally, through research, education, capacity strengthening and impact.

You will work in close collaboration with the department of Medical Microbiology. This department is responsible for infectious disease diagnostics (bacteriology, virology, serology, mycology and parasitology), clinical microbiological consultancy, and infection prevention at the University Medical Center Utrecht.

The candidate should have demonstrable experience in working with bioinformatics in the context of microbiology. Also, you have a strong interest in teaching and are preferably familiar with The Carpentries-style workshops. You are a team player, and motivated to collaborate with international partners, in low and high-resource settings. A willingness to travel to project partners is required. A PhD is preferred but non-PhD candidates with at least four years relevant experience will be considered.
