At Lely, we are building a new generation of digital infrastructure for dairy farmers. At the center of this is the LelyHub: a platform that brings Kubernetes to the edge on the farm and forms the foundation for our digital services. The global rollout is just getting started, with the ambition to eventually deploy this infrastructure to more than 25,000 farms worldwide.

The Lely Hub forms the digital heart of the farm. On the one hand, the platform ensures a reliable and secure on-site IT environment. On the other hand, it enables various software teams within Lely to run their applications locally on the farm.

As a Cloud Edge Engineer, you play an important role in building and improving this platform. Together with other engineers, you develop an environment in which Lely applications can run securely, scalably, and reliably on the Lely Hub.

You will work on topics such as container orchestration, deployment pipelines, and observability. With this, you ensure that software remains stable and well-managed on thousands of farms worldwide.

Your main responsibilities

  • Develop and improve the Edge platform of the Lely Hub, on which applications from different Lely development teams run
  • Build and maintain Helm charts for applications running on our Edge-based Kubernetes environment
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines to roll out specific software versions in a controlled manner to thousands of farms
  • Set up and enhance observability and monitoring, ensuring we maintain insight into how the Lely Hub performs at customer locations
  • Collaborate with various development teams to ensure their applications run safely and reliably on the Edge platform
  • Develop and integrate tooling that supports the platform, partly off-the-shelf and partly developed in-house

You are an engineer who gets energy from building platforms and infrastructure at scale. You enjoy collaborating with other teams and find it interesting to develop technology that is used directly in practice.

In addition, you largely recognize yourself in the following:

  • Approximately 5 years of relevant experience as a platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineer
  • Experience with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes environments
  • Knowledge of Helm and managing container-based applications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, for example with GitLab
  • A structured way of working and an interest in reliable and secure platform architectures
  • Experience with technologies such as Talos Linux, Omni, Python, KubeVirt, Cilium, Grafana stack, ArgoCD, or Multus is a plus
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation outside office hours (on average one evening per week and one weekend every five weeks), supporting internal engineering teams that run applications on the platform.

What you can expect from us

  • An international work environment that values collaboration, initiative, and diverse perspectives.
  • A culture that encourages learning, experimentation, and ownership of ideas.
  • Excellent employment conditions, including up to 8 weeks of vacation per year and a strong pension scheme.
  • A salary range of €5.000 - €7.100 gross per month, with clear opportunities for growth within the scale.
  • Full ownership of your own development, with access to a wide range of courses through the Lely Academy.
  • Daily access to outstanding sports facilities at the Lely Campus: an indoor gym, outdoor padel courts, basketball and volleyball courts, table tennis, and table football. You can join Hyrox workouts or sign up for personal training and challenge your colleagues during an active break.
  • Fresh coffee and tea from our own barista (with milk from our own farm) and a healthy, affordable company restaurant.

Work-life balance

  • A healthy work-life balance thanks to our hybrid working policy: you work at least three days a week on Campus, with flexible hours and plenty of opportunity to spend additional time onsite (between 06:00 and 20:00).
  • A free shuttle bus that takes you to and from the metro station in Maassluis, ensuring your workday starts and ends smoothly.
  • And of course: we love to celebrate! Whether it’s an anniversary or the annual Christmas party. At Lely, we know how to do it.

Our mission is to support sustainable food production.

For more than 30 years, we have been a global leader in the sale and service of automated systems for successive generations of dairy farmers. With our state-of-the-art Lely Campus in Maassluis and a global network of dedicated Lely Centers offering customized sales and service, Lely is active in more than fifty countries.
