IT Platform Engineer

You are an experienced, hands-on platform engineer who designs, builds and operates secure and reliable cloud capabilities for Innovation initiatives. You help move experiments and emerging technologies from prototype to maintainable production solutions, working within ABN AMRO architecture, security, risk and compliance requirements.

The Innovation Tech & Support team maintains and evolves applications and their supporting infrastructure. You work in a multidisciplinary environment with Innovation Managers, engineers, architects, security specialists and business stakeholders. As a subject-matter expert (SME), you guide technical choices, share knowledge and help teams deliver high-quality outcomes within the agreed platform and initiative scope.

As IT Platform Engineer you

• Platform engineering and production ownership: Design, build, maintain and operate complex Azure platform capabilities and services for Innovation initiatives - you build it, you run it
• Subject-matter expertise: Act as an SME for complex cloud and platform engineering challenges by analysing issues, presenting solution options and supporting sound technical decisions
• Security and resilience: Implement security, risk, compliance and non-functional requirements within the solutions you deliver, and involve the appropriate control or architecture functions when decisions or exceptions require escalation
• Operational quality: Improve the availability, performance, observability, supportability and cost-effectiveness of the services for which you are responsible; participate in incident and problem management when needed
• Automation: Automate provisioning, deployment, testing and operational tasks through Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines and scripting
• Collaboration: Coordinate technical dependencies with the teams involved in an initiative, communicate progress and constraints clearly, and escalate unresolved risks or decisions to the appropriate owner
• Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies through controlled experiments and help industrialise viable outcomes into maintainable production capabilities

Working Environment

The Innovation department within Innovation & Technology (I&T) plays a central role in delivering ABN AMRO's innovation agenda in close collaboration with Client Units and Functions. It consists of four teams: Innovation Tech & Support, AI, Digital Assets and Embedded Banking. Within Innovation, we take ownership, stay ahead of business and technology developments, challenge the status quo and learn quickly through experimentation.

Initiatives are prioritised according to their expected impact, including cost savings, revenue growth, capital relief and client satisfaction. Innovation Tech & Support provides shared capabilities that enable initiatives led by the AI, Embedded Banking and Digital Assets teams and supports the day-to-day operation of the Innovation department. Team members contribute directly to initiatives based on their expertise.

Your profile

You are an experienced platform engineering professional with deep hands-on expertise in cloud infrastructure and containerised workloads. You work independently on complex assignments and take production ownership within a clearly defined platform or initiative scope. You combine practical delivery with attention to security, reliability and maintainability, and you influence outcomes through expertise, collaboration and constructive challenge.

You enjoy working close to developers and stakeholders, explaining trade-offs clearly and helping colleagues grow through reviews, coaching and knowledge sharing. Furthermore you have:

• 5+ years of relevant experience in platform, cloud, DevOps or infrastructure engineering, including substantial hands-on experience designing, deploying and operating Azure infrastructure and containerised workloads in production within complex corporate environments
• Strong practical experience with AKS and at least one of Azure Container Apps or Azure App Service
• Solid understanding of identity and access management, cloud networking, private connectivity, DNS, certificates and secrets management
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code with Bicep and Terraform
• Proven experience automating development, security and operations through CI/CD solutions, preferably Azure DevOps, including appropriate quality and security controls

Nice to have

• Experience with automated infrastructure, integration and application testing
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, TypeScript or an equivalent language, with experience designing backend-heavy systems and integrations
• Relevant industry certifications in Azure, Kubernetes, security or Infrastructure as Code
• Experience applying security, risk, compliance and non-functional requirements in a regulated environment
• Experience integrating emerging technologies into an existing enterprise IT landscape
