Career at Damen

Damen aims to become the world's most sustainable and digitally connected shipyard. The RD&I department develops and implements the technology and know-how to achieve these ambitions. We actively assist the business in creating an innovative product portfolio and provide forward-thinking guidance to improve the quality and performance of Damen's products and services.

Within Damen Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I), the department is seeking a Combustion Propulsion Engineer for the Group Technology Management New Energy team.

In addition, you will initiate promoting proven solutions to standards that can be used within the Damen Group.

Close collaboration with relevant stakeholders within and outside the Damen group, such as Design & Proposal, Engineering, Services, Production, and Damen clients and suppliers, is part of your daily work.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the implementation of suitable combustion propulsion engineering principles in ship designs.
  • Offer consultative technical advice to business units, guiding them on product functionality, performance, and quality related to combustion propulsion systems and the integration thereof on board.
  • Intensively document your knowledge and experience in Best Practice information and add this to the knowledge database.
  • Build and maintain a network through strong communication and stakeholder management.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To excel in the role of Combustion Propulsion Engineer and to fit our team of professionals you preferably possess:

  • Minimal a HBO degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of combustion systems and the usage of methanol, biodiesel or other alternatives for regular Diesel.
  • A basic understanding of (MB)SE principles to support the ability to design and implement combustion propulsion systems for ships.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with specialists from diverse fields, including mechanics, hydromechanics, and data science.
  • The ability to translate executed solutions and experiences into “Best Practices” for usage in (near) future.
  • The ability to judge requirements and specifications to outsource the propulsion systems and to assess and judge the delivery of the supplier.
  • An independent and flexible attitude.
  • Communicative.
  • Pro-active attitude.
  • A high level of proficiency in English, both verbally and in writing.
