Introductie

Keeping the Netherlands powered — that’s our mission. In this role as an Operating Engineer (Offshore Fire Safety Systems), you help ensure the electricity grid is future-proof. Together with your team, you work on innovative solutions that contribute to a stable and sustainable energy system.

Jouw rol

How will you help power the Netherlands? As an Operating Engineer, you will manage preventive and corrective maintenance, operational readiness, and improvement projects related to offshore fire safety systems of the 700MW offshore converter stations. Your work supports the safe and continuous operation of TenneT’s growing offshore asset portfolio. In addition, you are responsible for:

  • Setting technical direction for operations and maintenance – Ensuring fire safety systems operate safely and reliably across offshore platforms.
  • Managing improvement projects – Leading or supporting technical projects and warranty processes with key vendors.
  • Operational readiness – Defining and implementing operational requirements for newly delivered offshore assets.
  • System troubleshooting and fault resolution – Acting swiftly and effectively in case of incidents to ensure system uptime.
  • Contract and budget management – Overseeing service contracts, coordinating tenders and negotiations, and ensuring contract performance.

Jouw profiel & achtergrond

At TenneT, we are looking for professionals who help shape the future of our electricity grid. We expect you to bring the right experience and skills to make a valuable contribution to our team and mission.

What do you bring?

  • Technical ownership: You confidently take the lead on fire safety systems, acting as a subject matter expert across projects and operations.
  • Problem-solving mindset: Calm and solution-oriented in complex offshore situations, including faults and emergencies.
  • Team player: You collaborate naturally, supporting both technical peers and project stakeholders with practical and strategic advice.
  • A BSc or MSc degree in Engineering, with at least 5 years of relevant offshore experience.
  • Expertise in fire alarm systems (e.g., Tyco, Semco) and fire suppression systems (water, foam, gas, chemical).
  • Familiarity with offshore codes and regulations (e.g., DNV, PED, SODM, NEN).
  • Knowledge of IT/OT architectures, e.g., Perdue Model or ISA-99.
  • Experience with SAP or similar maintenance systems (Maximo, Ultimo).
  • Proficient in planning, coordinating, and documenting technical maintenance.
  • Experience acting as discipline lead on projects and operational readiness programs.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English, verbal and written (B2 or higher).
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Proven cooperation and communications skills are essential. An offshore medical examination and a number of required trainings (GWO, etc.) must be performed with a positive outcome on a regular basis.

Team

You will join the Operating Engineers team within GON, led by Willem Nugteren, and collaborate with asset managers, project leads, commissioning engineers, and contractors. The team plays a vital role in safeguarding the availability, safety, and maintainability of offshore assets. We value teamwork, proactiveness, and cross-disciplinary cooperation in a dynamic offshore setting.

  • A permanent contract with a two-month probation period
  • A salary in scale 8: €4.267 to €8.443 gross per month (based on 40 hours)
  • A solid pension plan via ABP: we cover 70% of your contribution
