Introduction to the job

As an R&D Export Control Solution Lead (Software), you help ensure that ASML’s most advanced software innovations comply with global export-control regulations from the earliest stages of development. You translate complex regulatory expectations into practical requirements, processes and solution directions that enable software engineers to innovate responsibly, securely and in line with global rules. Your work strengthens ASML’s long-term export-control maturity within R&D’s software development.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you shape how export-control requirements are embedded across software engineering, data management and software delivery pipelines. You provide guidance on solution approaches, define guardrails and support teams in making well-informed decisions. You connect regulatory obligations with real-world software development needs, enabling R&D to move fast while staying compliant.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Translate export-control regulations into clear process, data and functional requirements for software development teams.
  • Define and maintain governance structures and solution guardrails to support compliant software engineering practices.
  • Support the development of the target operating model and compliance-by-design principles for software initiatives.
  • Review solution proposals and challenge design decisions where needed to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations.
  • Provide guidance on secure code, build, test, artifact management and controlled information handling across repositories and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Partner with software engineering teams to integrate export-control requirements into design choices and development workflows.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, control design and continuous improvement of the export-control governance framework.

Education and experience

You bring a strong foundation in regulated technology environments and the ability to convert complex rules into practical, scalable solutions.

  • A master’s degree in engineering, information management, business administration, compliance or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in process design, information management, compliance, solution governance or similar roles.
  • Experience translating regulations such as U.S. EAR or EU Dual-Use into system, process or functional requirements.
  • Background in complex software development environments or large engineering organizations.
  • Experience with modern development toolchains such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jenkins or Bamboo.
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working is a plus.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Bringing structure to complex topics and defining clear solution direction and governance.
  • Communicating clearly with engineering, IT, legal and compliance stakeholders.
  • Accurately analyzing processes, data flows and software development control points.
  • Building alignment across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Constructively challenging assumptions and guiding decisions.
  • Applying identity & access management principles (e.g. RBAC/ABAC) effectively in development environments.
  • Translating conceptual ideas into practical, testable and auditable requirements.

Other information

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
