Introduction to the job

As an R&D Export Control Governance Expert, you help ASML meet strict global export control regulations while enabling world class innovation. You ensure that R&D organizations operate within clearly defined governance frameworks, and you translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable processes. Your work strengthens ASML’s long term export control maturity and ensures R&D can innovate safely, responsibly and compliantly.

Role and responsibilities

In this role, you are responsible for shaping, maintaining and improving the export control governance landscape across R&D. You collaborate closely with engineers, researchers and cross functional compliance teams to identify risks, define controls and guide the adoption of compliant ways of working. You bring structure in a dynamic environment, ensure transparency in decision making and enable the organization to consistently meet regulatory expectations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain and improve governance structures that support export‑control compliance in R&D.
  • Coordinate export‑control–related assessments, process improvements and compliance activities across R&D.
  • Identify risks and gaps in current ways of working, and clearly communicate insights and recommendations to leadership.
  • Provide expert guidance and context to support informed, compliant decision‑making.
  • Support multiple initiatives simultaneously and help teams manage cross‑domain dependencies.
  • Promote adoption of new processes and governance frameworks, ensuring clarity, alignment and effective implementation.
  • Contribute to integrated governance solutions that strengthen long‑term compliance and operational readiness.

Education and experience

You bring structured working experience, strong analytical skills and a passion for regulatory governance in a high‑tech environment.

Your background includes:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least five years of experience in a compliance, governance or specialist role within a complex organization.
  • Experience working in regulatory domains such as export control, cybersecurity, privacy or similar environments.
  • Affinity with research, engineering or software development organizations.
  • Experience with structured processes, governance frameworks or tools used in technology environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working is a plus.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
