The Insurance Manager is part of the Global Insurance team, responsible for the procurement and management of the Global Insurance program as well as claims management globally and also functions as a specialized internal consultant on insurance-related matters.

What will you do as Insurance Manager?

The Insurance Manager is responsible for the handling of the property damage, business interruption and liability claims and instigates recovery actions on third parties of such claims. Furthermore, together with the team, the Insurance Manager is also responsible for the yearly renewal process of the Global Insurance Program and safeguarding the Insurance policy, guidelines and procedures.

The Insurance team consists of two (Senior) Insurance Managers and an Insurance Specialist who all report directly to the Senior Vice President Global Treasury & Insurance. They work closely together with the Treasury & Insurance Controller. The Global Insurance department is a centralized function within Vopak, located at the headquarters in Rotterdam, which acts as subject matter expert for the Business Units.

Your core responsibilities are:

• Advise the organization on claims matters and insurance related issues;
• Together with the other Insurance Manager take care of the yearly renewal process of the Global Insurance Program: from the strategic meeting, collecting underwriting information, negotiating terms and conditions up to the final contracts;
• Initiate, lead and participate in the execution of Risk Studies;
• Pro-actively promote the Vopak Insurance Policy including Procedures and Guidelines (internally and externally);
• Organize the efficient and professional handling of (mainly) Property and Liability claims, to analyze and settle them, to liaise with operating companies and if needed to negotiate with lawyers, adjusters, insurers and third parties. For the smaller claims this means setting up clear procedures for Business Units to be able to manage these independently where possible and be the subject matter expert if needed. The larger and/or more complex claims are handled directly by the Insurance Department at headquarters;
• Organize efficient recovery procedures against third parties;
• Ensure an efficient and effective claims registration in the in-house risk register;
• Represent Global Insurance internally and externally in projects related to business development (greenfield, brownfield) to safeguard adherence to Vopak’s Insurance Policy;
• Be a sparring partner for the Insurance Controller for improvements in reporting and other projects;
• Support the SVP Global Insurance on various projects.

What do we expect from you as an Insurance Manager?

• Academic level in law and/or risk management, including relevant insurance certificates;
• At least 10 years of relevant work experience in the insurance industry and claims handling;
• Knowledge of the insurance market, -products and regulations;
• Fluent in Dutch and English, written and verbal;
• Proficient in standard business software (Microsoft/Google) and AI-driven productivity tools;
• Advisory skills and analytical mindset recognizing exposures and translate them into insurance solutions;
• Strong communicator for maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
• No-nonsense proactive team player that is able to work independently with a flexible and service oriented mindset;
• Eagerness to learn and gaining new insurance skills.
